Florida State Hospital: Registered Nurse (778476)

Pay rate: $45.00/hr$2000.00 sign on bonus (1 year commitment)

Location: FL DOH Chattahoochee100 N. Main St Chattahoochee FL32324

Hours: 3 days a week 12 hour shifts 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am (30-minute unpaid lunch)This facility operates 24/7. Candidate may be required to work 16-hour shift as needed.

Note:Candidates will need to attend a one-week orientation working Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm in classroom then one week shadowing DCF nurses.

Job Description:

Pay Rate: $45.00 per hour.

WORK ENVIORNMENT:This is a State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital which operates 24/7 7 days a week. It currently has 223 buildings on campus with a capacity of 1334 patients. Some patients as young as 13 yrs old. The hospitals current Administration Building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

TYPE OF PATIENTS:Two categories of patients are treated at the hospital; those civilly committed under Statute 394 who represent a small portion of the hospitals residents; and those forensically committed under Statute 916. The Civil portion of the hospital houses adult and elderly individuals who have been civilly committed to the hospital and forensic residents who have been stepped down to the civil unit. The civil units are also known as Forensic Transition ward entry has security guards and a metal detector. Most patients are ambulatory young adults age 20-25. Facility also has a small geriatric dorm.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT:

Nurses will be required to drive state vehicles transporting patients to outside facility doctor appointments and hospitals. Some may be required to be a sitter with the patient during an outside hospital stay.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • One year of acute care or two years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Must be CPR certified or able to complete training.
  • Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
  • Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. remain alert while on duty and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess resident complaints and determine action notifying supervisor when necessary.
  • Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
  • Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
  • Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor or further assessment and treatment.
  • Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
  • Coordinate residents appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as need for resident movement to and from the unit.
  • Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
  • Complete incident reports factually and objectively within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
