What You Will Be Doing:
This position provides professional subject matter expertise in architectural history for the State of Alaska and its state historic preservation programs administered by the Office of History and Archaeology. Duties include:
Mission and Values/Culture:
The Office of History and Archaeology (OHA) is Alaskas primary office with knowledge and expertise in historic preservation dedicated to preserving and interpreting Alaskas past. It serves as Alaskas State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The office works with federal and state agencies tribes local governments the public and educational and not-for-profit organizations to identify preserve protect and interpret the states cultural historic and archaeological resources ensuring that our heritage is passed on to future generations.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
OHA is an open office environment where the incumbent has access to desk space a personal computer and participates in weekly in-person and virtual meetings. Fieldwork includes traveling to cities towns communities and remote locations throughout Alaska to conduct field investigations document historic properties and prepare reports including historic structure reports and documentation for National Register of Historic Places nominations. The position may involve being present at construction sites which entails exposure to high levels of noise and working around moving machinery and mechanical parts.

Masters degree from an accredited college in history architectural history or closely related fields and one year experience in the collection synthesis evaluation and presentation of historical data as an Historian 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution: Additional graduate study in history architectural history or closely related fields beyond the specified masters degree may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Two years of professional historical research experience beyond the bachelors degree will substitute for the required masters degree.

Supplemental Questions
For your application to be evaluated you must answer the Supplemental Questions. The State of Alaska (SOA) utilizes four proficiency levels to measure and describe an applicants level of competence in applying certain behaviors knowledge skills and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The four proficiency levels are Mastery Fluency Literacy and Discovery. You must rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.
Education
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill out the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position.

Alternatively an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution must report that the other institutions transcript is given full value or that full value is recognized in relevant subject areas aligned with the post-secondary institutions curricula. It is your responsibility to provide this evidence when applying.
