Reporting to the Interim Title IX Coordinator and Assistant Dean of Students the Equity and Civil Rights Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations pertaining to protected status discrimination and harassment sexual misconduct dating and domestic violence. This position plays a critical role in ensuring institutional compliance with Title VI Title VII Title IX and other federal and state civil rights laws. The primary focus of this position will be cases involving students but the investigator may handle employee-related cases if needed. The Investigator supports the development and implementation of training and outreach programs works collaboratively across campus departments and helps ensure that university policies and procedures promote a safe inclusive and equitable learning and working environment. As a member of Student Success and Support Services the investigator will support campus-wide and divisional events and programs.Responsibilities:
Investigations
Conduct prompt impartial and thorough investigations of complaints related to Title IX Title VI and other applicable laws and university policies.
Develop investigation plans interview complainants respondents and witnesses and collect and analyze relevant evidence.
Prepare comprehensive detailed investigative reports with findings of fact and analysis in compliance with university policies and applicable law.
Recommend and coordinate interim measures and supportive remedies with campus partners as necessary.
Utilize case management software (Maxient) to maintain comprehensive documentation of investigation.
Education
Coordinate Title IX training for students.
Assist in developing and delivering educational programs and training for students faculty and staff related to sexual misconduct discrimination harassment and retaliation.
Create and disseminate outreach materials including brochures posters digital media and training content.
Programmatic Support
Work collaboratively with other campus departments to support student programming and events related to Title IX Title VI diversity equity and inclusion including Sexual Assault Awareness month and student Welcome Week / orientation.
Support Division events and initiatives including special events and programming.
Additional Duties
Assist in the development of University policies and procedures. Suggest process improvements to support timely and equitable case handling.
May participate in University or System committees related to Title IX Title VI ADA and DEIB
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree Three years experience in compliance investigation employee relations human resources or student conduct.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree Professional experience in higher education environment.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations including Title IX Title VI Title VII ADA Section 504 VAWA and FERPA.
Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and analytical abilities; ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; discretion and professionalism.
Experience in higher education or with a government agency handling civil rights compliance preferred.
Familiarity with case management systems and online training platforms preferably Maxient.
Ability to prioritize work appropriately while anticipating deadlines as well as the ability to meet established deadlines in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently as well as with other administrative and academic departments faculty staff students alumni groups and the general public.
Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity toward experiences and expressions of trauma caused by sexual violence and harassment and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentially and sensitivity to privacy.
Substantial experience working with diverse populations including populations of color the LGBTQIA community and persons with disabilities.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective collaborative relationships.
This is a hybrid position expected to work on campus three days and remote two days a week. However there may be periodic instances during the academic year when additional on-campus presence is necessary.
