What we are looking for:
We are seeking either an Assistant Building Certifier or Building Certifier to undertake Building Certification tasks with our Regulatory Service Team. You will play a key role in delivering Councils statutory building certification responsibilities and providing professional and technical advice on legislation compliance and certification matters.
What your day will look like:
- You will support and assist the Manager Development Compliance and Plumbing Services as Councils principal Building Certifier
- You will manage regulatory breaches by monitoring investigating and reporting on illegal build matters.
- Provide advice to the public on building certification and compliance issues and play a vital role in the safety of the Fraser Coast community.
- Compilation of evidence for prosecutions where required by Council and where appropriate attend court to act as witness on behalf of Council.
- Coordinate and undertake regular inspections
- Manage and assess development applications for building work as required
- Assist in development & implementation of monitoring programs for high-risk premises
- Develop and modify systems to maximise efficiencies and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

What youll need for success (competency based):
- Level 5
- Desirable: RICS/AIBS Accreditation Certificate Level 2 or Level 3 (eligibility for QBCC Building Certifier L2/L3)
- Technical building experience and sound understanding knowledge and application of Building Act and relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Level 6
- QBCC Building Certifier licence Level 2 or Level 3; or an AQF Level 7 degree in Building Surveying (or related) and other qualifications that support eligibility for RICS/AIBS Level 2/3 accreditation leading to QBCC Level 2/3
- Expert working knowledge of the Building Act and relevant legislation. Demonstrated extensive experience in a Local Government or similar industry in building certification. Undertake
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal listening advising and negotiation skills
- Written correspondence and reports - Demonstrated ability to work within a certification and regulatory team including the ability to meet all statutory deadlines
- Intermediate to Advanced computer software proficiency in relation to the use of Microsoft Office Suite RAMS Document Management systems and other Local Government Software systems
- Drivers License
- Qld swimming pool inspectors license or the ability to promptly obtain

- Tertiary qualifications or suitable experience in Town Planning.
