Our client is a well-established commercial landscape and snow contractor serving the greater Chicago area. Known for their quality professionalism and team-centered culture they maintain a large and diverse fleet of trucks trailers loaders and small equipment supporting year-round operations.
Theyre seeking a hands-on Shop Manager someone who brings mechanical expertise leadership presence and a systems mindset to oversee the companys fleet and equipment operations.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal high-impact position for a mechanically inclined leader who thrives on keeping operations running smoothly. Youll oversee a diverse mix of diesel trucks two-cycle equipment and snow assets implementing systems for preventive maintenance repair tracking and safety compliance.
As the Shop Manager youll serve as the go-to for all equipment and fleet operations working closely with the operations leadership team to reduce downtime extend asset life and maintain a clean safe and efficient shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all fleet and equipment maintenance including trucks trailers loaders mowers and small engines.
- Diagnose and perform mechanical repairs on diesel gas and two-cycle engines.
- Implement and manage preventive maintenance programs and service schedules.
- Maintain detailed service logs equipment records and parts inventory.
- Coordinate repairs and warranty work with outside vendors and ensure cost efficiency.
- Enforce safety cleanliness and organization standards in the shop.
- Train and coach field teams on proper equipment use fueling and care.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure fleet readiness and compliance.
- Track fleet costs and utilization to assist leadership with purchasing budgeting and asset management.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns and field repair needs to minimize downtime.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in shop fleet or equipment management within the landscape snow or construction industry.
- Strong mechanical expertise in diesel hydraulic and small engine (two-cycle/four-cycle) systems.
- Proven ability to organize document and track maintenance activities.
- Skilled at managing vendors ordering parts and negotiating costs.
- Hands-on dependable and able to communicate effectively with field and office teams.
- Valid drivers license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $85000 $95000 (commensurate with experience)
- Bonus: Annual performance incentive
