This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services Inc. and provide services outlined below:

The Pharmacy Technician role is part of a program that provides comprehensive pharmacy services. This position plays a critical role in supporting various healthcare programs that cater to specific populations including veterans and their families. The Pharmacy Technician will apply established management protocols to review and process prescriptions which may require interaction with healthcare providers patients and their families.
The program operates from multiple physical locations as well as various virtual (home office) setups depending on the the past fiscal year the program has handled millions of prescriptions across a diverse range of sources from across the country.

  • Read and interpret prescriptions for completeness.
  • Identify missing pertinent information and correspond with providers or patients for clarification as needed.
  • Enter correct drug strength dosage form directions quantity and days supply into the patients medication profile per Meds by Mail (MbM) policy.
  • Process prescription refills and electronic prescription renewal requests. The prescription entry will be verified by a pharmacist.
  • Read computer screens and select specific drugs and products required to fill a prescription by name strength quantity refill number and directions.
  • Process patient letters including return and back-order letters.
  • Work in various queues including adding new providers to MbM provider database and work in various specialty pharmacy teams.
  • Operate various types of pharmacy automation and office equipment including but not limited to scanner fax computer software and hardware printers etc.
  • Utilize pharmacy information systems to identify basic therapeutic problems such as duplicate therapy with drugs in the same drug class and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention.
  • Process medications that are returned to MbM facilities according to MbM Policy.
  • Perform call center tasks according to MbM policies and procedures and all applicable federal and state laws documents oral disclosures in the patients electronic health record.
  • Report medication errors and quality issues in alignment with MbM Quality and Safety reporting program.
  • Participate in reviewing medication histories allergies adverse drug reactions and drug therapy compliance with patients and significant family members or caregivers.
  • Assist in scheduling timecard corrections answering questions from contract staff.
  • Maintain records on background investigations training on contract staff reports.
  • Responsible for day-to-day administration and coordination of contract technician staff activities with other production areas.
  • Perform the varied tasks involved with human resource management.
  • Assist with training and education of personnel and ongoing evaluation of performance.
  • Initiate corrective actions necessary for any conduct violation and monitors excessive tardiness or sick leave for contract personnel.
  • Plan and publish contract work schedules in a timely manner ensuring adequate staffing for the accomplishment of the MbM mission and make recommendations on allocation of resources to increase efficiency.
  • Monitor work output of contract personnel and report any issues to MbM COR.
  • Enforce appropriate training and disciplinary action for contract personnel involving medication errors in a timely manner or below average production.
  • Ensure mandatory training is completed timely by contract personnel.
  • Resolve problems and complaints of contract personnel.
  • Completes required organizational compliance education including assigned requirements that are client-specified for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications :

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must be Certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Must possess six months of experience in retail or hospital pharmacy setting OR be a graduate of an Academic Technician Training Educational Program.
  • Must possess demonstrated experience leading a group or project that would indicate the ability to manage and supervise others.
  • Must possess demonstrated experience in administrative/records management to assist with maintaining required records on staff background investigations training and reporting.

Education Required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read write and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Compensation Min: Pay is negotiable.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. The applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data will determine the final salary and offer.
