Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Medical Oncology (MONC) Unit provides multidisciplinary management for adult cancer patients. An important component of its continuous growth is the activation of service improvement and research projects. The Unit is committed to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery with a focus on consumer-driven patient-centred innovations. With strong affiliations with Monash University the Unit has a growing portfolio of clinical and translational projects that are enabled by the Alfred Cancer Biobank (ACB).

The primary purpose of the position is to support the continuous growth of the Medical Oncology (MONC) Unit particularly in the areas of academic research and clinical service improvement. Supported by the Director and Clinical Research Manager the position is responsible for overseeing the logistics operations and management of the Alfred Cancer Biobank.

Essential for this role is evidence of a tertiary degree in a related field and relevant experience in biomedical research or project management within a health service.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in scientific project management
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independence judgement and initiative
  • Familiarity with the ethical and legal requirements of biobanking
  • Exceptional organisational skills attention to detail and quality of documentation
  • Recruitment process may involve a short example task
