MISSION:
To identify and record casting defects severity and the responsible department in order to assist engineering and process control in resolving processing variations. To verify alloy type in each casting and visually inspect castings before release for further processing.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Inspection.
Objective: to visually inspect and verify part quality through instrumentation tests prior to routing for further processing.
Typical Activities:
- Visually inspect all castings for defects using boroscopes mirrors and other hand tools when necessary
- Verifies the alloy composition of all castings and weld patches using Acromag and Kevex spectral analyzer; programs analyzer and reviews results.
- Verifies alloy type of x-ray pennies laid on film.
- Routes parts.
2. Documentation.
Objective: to record defects and process control problems for timely analysis by process control and engineering.
Typical Activities:
- Records type of defects severity location and responsible department; prepares reports.
- Documents and identifies unusual or recurring problems with parts and brings to the attention of the appropriate individual.
- Reviews completes and assures accurate documentation.
- Completes special reports as requested by engineering or process control.
3. Interfacing.
Objective: to work with engineering process control and other plant departments to identify and resolve problems found during inspection.
Typical Activities:
- Contacts engineering personnel for their inspection of parts when necessary and or requested.
- Assists Production Supervision and Part Product Engineers in evaluation of samples trials and experiments.
- Assists Process Control in monitoring part quality.
- Contacts Investing Casting and other production departments as appropriate regarding part defects.
4. Safety
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
Typical Activities:
- Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
- Safely operates all equipment and tools.
Identifies and reports safety problems.
- Performs other tasks as directed.
- May be required to handle hazardous waste.
TRAINING:
Training is provided on the job.
May be required to complete Hazardous Waste Management Training.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of one or more of the stages of the investment casting process is preferred OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Ability to follow instructions read write and perform arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to attend to details.
- Ability to lift and or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to seventy five pounds.
- Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise dust temperature extremes awkward positions and other elements for extended periods of time.
MAJOR PLANT DIFFERENCES:
- LSBO First Inspectors complete scrap assignments; collect scrap parts complete paperwork to assign responsible departments and route scrap to
