Job Description:
- Electromagnetic and Nuclear Effects (ENE) Engineering at L3Harris Technologies provides a unique opportunity for engineers to contribute to cutting edge technology for addressing critical customer needs with national impacts for a variety of interesting customers.
- The ENE engineer contributes as part of a multi-disciplinary team (mechanical engineering digital engineering RF engineering antenna engineering etc.) to design and deliver solutions for sea ground air and space environments ranging from full satellites satellite payloads avionics in fighter jets and satcom terminals that provide critical communication links for national assets.
- The ENE Design Engineer gets experience with and contributes to design with all levels of assembly ranging from circuit card assemblies to fully integrated systems providing an invaluable experience to engineers looking to develop their skills.
- The ENE Design Engineer will also gain experience designing to meet performance in a variety of electromagnetic environments including lightning and HEMP.
- The design engineer will additionally gain experience in niche design aspects for the space environment such as multipactor and spacecraft charging.
Under guidance from an experienced ENE engineer the desired applicant will be responsible for programs compliance with EMI/EMC/ESD lightning HEMP and multipactor requirements through all program phases form initial proposal through production and site applicant will have opportunities for mentoring and on-the-job training with experienced ENE engineers and will incur increasing levels of responsibility as skill sets develop and the ability to work independently is demonstrated. During the early program phases the applicant will support systems engineering in negotiation tailoring derivation and decomposition of EMI/EMC requirements with the customer and internal design teams and assess their impact on the baseline design as it the design phase the applicant provides EMI/EMC support to the design teams and is responsible for analysis projecting compliance margins to EMI/EMC requirements to be presented at design reviews and customer technical meetings. Applicant is the liaison between the program and the EMI Lab responsible for developing the EMI test plan and supporting the EMI Lab with its implementation in the EMI Test procedure. The desired applicant should be familiar with circuit simulation and electromagnetic modeling software tools ENE design practices common electromagnetic environments and possess a fundamental understanding of EMI test methodologies and equipment ranging from but not limited to spectrum analyzers receivers oscilloscopes amplifiers current probes and power supplies.
Essential Functions:
- Review customer EMI/EMC requirements or assist in deriving and decomposing EMI/EMC requirements for programs.
- Provide design and analysis support to aid in and project compliance to program EMI/EMC requirements.
- Generate and/or contribute to EMI/EMC control plans and test plans; document analysis and present at program design reviews
- Work independently with guidance provided by an experienced engineer
Qualifications:
- To be eligible applicants must be pursuing a PHD Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or similar STEM subject with a background in electronics and/or electromagnetics or have completed their Masters degree within the last 12 months regardless of age.
- Eligibility to obtain a Security Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Interest or experience using 3D electromagnetic solvers such as CST Microwave Studio Ansys HFSS/Maxwell FEKO etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and able to multi-task between different assignments
- Scientific/engineering writing skills
- Basic understanding of EMI/EMC design techniques such as shielding filtering transient protection and grounding
- Background or undergraduate/graduate coursework in electromagnetics (e.g. Antennas RF Design Electromagnetic Fields)
- Background or undergraduate/graduate coursework in circuit theory with experience using circuit simulators such as LTSpice or PSpice
- Basic understanding of common electromagnetic environments and effects
