Job Description

Middle School Chinese and English Visual Arts Teacher

Silicon Valley International School is seeking a passionate creative and bilingual MYP Visual Arts Teacher who can teach classes in Chinese and English. The successful candidate will inspire students to explore visual expression develop artistic skills and engage critically with art in both local and global contexts. Instruction will be delivered in both English and Chinese supporting our bilingual program and fostering intercultural understanding through the arts. This is a part-time position 50%.

Please note: There exists the potential to transition this role into a full-time position which would encompass 50% teaching responsibilities and 50% Education Support Staff duties including substitute teaching and supervision for the suitable candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan teach and assess MYP Visual Arts courses in alignment with IB MYP objectives criteria and inquiry-based pedagogy.
  • Deliver instruction in both English and Chinese ensuring that students develop visual literacy technical skills and creative confidence in both languages.
  • Create an engaging supportive and safe learning environment that encourages risk-taking reflection and exploration in the arts.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment tools to support diverse learning styles and language abilities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive curriculum and integration of language development within the arts.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement provide timely feedback and communicate regularly with students parents and colleagues.
  • Participate actively in professional learning curriculum development and school events.

Specific Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Visual Arts Fine Arts Art Education or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • Proven teaching experience in Visual Arts at the middle school level; experience with the IB MYP strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English with the ability to teach confidently in both languages.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning differentiation and formative assessment.
  • Commitment to fostering creativity cultural awareness and artistic expression in a bilingual and international environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative team player

Compensation:

Our compensation is based on educational attainment and years of experience. The annual salary for this 50% FTE part-time teaching position for the school year will be prorated based on a full-time equivalent; the range is $79903 (BA Step 3) to $123672 (PhD Step 23).

In addition the candidate will be eligible for prorated full-time equivalent (FTE) compensation during the three academic breaks: Winter Spring and Fall as well as the two-week holiday period at the end of the year.

As this position does not meet the schools threshold for regular benefits the candidate will qualify for limited eligibility in the schools current benefit package. However we do offer:

  • Holiday pay will be prorated.
  • Employees are entitled to forty (40) hours of paid sick leave.
  • Eligibility to enroll and participate in the 403(b) retirement plan is granted immediately upon employment.
  • The employer match for contributions to the 403(b) retirement plan commences after two years of employment and 1000 hours of service in each academic year structured as follows:
    • A 5% match from years three through ten
    • A 7% match after the completion of ten years of service
  • Professional development initiatives will be customized to align with teachers needs and interests in accordance with the schools mission.
