This position qualifies for Relocation Assistance of up to $10000. In turn a Return of Service will be required for a one(1) year period.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of the Pediatric Operating Room the Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of an interdisciplinary care team providing holistic comprehensive evidenced based care to meet the needs of individuals families and/or communities. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment and the planning implementation and evaluation of patient/family care for the purpose of promoting maintaining or restoring health preventing illness injury and disability or supporting a peaceful death. The RN provides care in collaboration with the patient and family other nurses and health team members throughout all stages of health and the complexities of illness. The RN builds professional relationships with other nurses and health team members to support the work of a strong interprofessional team and the provision of quality patient/family care. The RN ensures patients and families goals and needs are prioritized and individualized using nursing knowledge critical thinking and clinical judgment.

The RN engages in independent interdependent and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment patient/family education and coordination of care. The RN helps to build our reputation for excellence in the Maritime community contributing to a sustainable healthcare system through formal and informal partnerships. The RN pursues excellence in care teaching and research through a spirit of inquiry discovery and innovation leveraging our reputation and influence to advocate for health. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Practice specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of IWK Health. The RN will be responsible for the care and delivery of Family Centred Care in the Pediatric OR consistent with the philosophy objectives vision and mission of IWK Health.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday with weekend/weekday stand-by on a rotational basis.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered).
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
  • Current successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 monthsor successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate.
  • Minimum 6 monthsrecent experience (within the previous 4 years) in an Operating Room supporting a minimum of 2 Services (i.e. Cardiac Surgery Orthopedic Surgery Neurosurgery Gyne Surgery etc.) required
  • Current Pediatric nursing experience preferred
  • Perioperative Course or equivalent required
  • Perioperative Certification is preferred
  • Surgical Liaison Nursing experience an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy fast-paced environment required.
  • Proven communication (both verbal & written) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated organization time management and prioritization skills required.
  • Proven independent problem-solving and decision-making skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience in patient/family teaching preferred.
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Family Centred Care preferred.
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset.

Where there are no qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for recent Operating Room experience and do not meet the requirement for a Perioperative course consideration may be given to Registered Nurses without the required experience and coursework.
