Job Description

The purpose of this document is to define the duties and accountabilities for the Estimator I Estimator II and Estimator III positions. Estimator is responsible for providing direct pricing support to internal and external customers on design/build and publicly bid projects using the most current pricing available. They will also be supported in ensuring estimates are being done in accordance with the high standards of the organization. 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

  • Prepares estimates from information received such as contract drawings specifications and addendums using in-house pricing software supplemental design and pricing programs and information obtained from vendors. 

  • Identifies exclusions discrepancies missing information and obtains clarification and qualifies the quotation based on that information. 

  • Provides adds deducts or alternates as requested to estimates that require special pricing beyond the current capabilities of the pricing software. 

  • Ensures the use of the most current pricing information when preparing the estimate. 

  • Builds and maintains Builder/Vendor relationships. 

  • Communicates with Builders Sales Customer Service and Engineering regarding any clarification of scope/design intent that the Estimator was involved in. 

  • Provides training to Builder Network and Field Sales on proper use of inhouse pricing tool.  

  • Manages and prioritizes multiple workflows simultaneously. 

  • Continually improve productivity accuracy and ability. 

  • Understand the role in the overall system and be willing to step outside that role when required. 

  • Reports to Estimating Manager.  

  • Work related travel would typically be less than 2 times per year 


Qualifications :

Estimator I 

  • Good mathematical and analytical skills. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods. 

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.  

  • Must be comfortable on the phone with customers and Field Sales. 

  • Must be detail and customer service oriented. 

  • CAD experience preferred. 

  • Must be computer proficient and exhibit competency using in-house pricing programs and Excel.  

  • Basic PEMB knowledge in product offerings and design considerations 

  • High school diploma is required. Associates degree in related field preferred. 

  • Typically 2-years metal building experience or related field. 

 

Estimator II 

  • Evaluates customer provided information for cost effective solutions (value engineering). 

  • Self performs and/or checks complex estimates with little guidance. 

  • Advanced PEMB knowledge in product offerings design considerations and in-house pricing programs 

  • Basic working knowledge in design tools/procedures 

  • Typically 4-years metal building experience or related field  

  • Train and mentor less experienced Estimators 

 

Estimator III 

 

  • Exhibits near mastery of PEMB knowledge in product offerings design considerations and in-house pricing programs 

  • Advanced working knowledge in design tools/procedures 

  • Provide supervision in the absence of Estimating Manager and provide technical support for Estimating staff.  

  • Typically 10-years metal building experience or related field
