The Financial Conduct Authority is a key part of the regulatory structure in financial services together with the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Bank of England. We work to make financial markets work well for consumers of financial services.
This role is in the Competition Directorate (CD) in which you would be responsible for the FCAs CD mandate. Much of our work is focused on ensuring markets are working well for consumers.
What will you be doing
Leading complex projects ensuring projects are well scoped managed and resourced ensuring project outcomes meet the FCAs objectives
Developing the technical capacity and capabilities of the economics team whilst keeping your own technical knowledge updated
Providing expert advice to senior stakeholders delivering support and intellectual leadership to economist colleagues
Reporting to executive committee on live projects to provide regular updates and provide direction where applicable
Line managing supporting and developing economist colleagues
Actively contributing and collaborating with the directorate taking responsibility for management initiatives

Minimum
Prior experience working as an economist in a regulatory government consultancy or academia background
Prior experience in mentoring or supporting colleagues to build and sustain a high performing collaborative team
Prior experience in managing complex economics and analytical projects within tight timeframes
Essential
An academic background in economics including a qualification in Economics at undergraduate preferably Masters level
Strong stakeholder management skills at a senior level internal and external
Ability to effectively delegate in teams with mixed skillsets utilising line management and people management skills
Strong drafting and presenting skills for a senior audience
Ability to deal with objection handling efficiently
