    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Hold current Minnesota State license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
    2. Current certification in CPR
    3. Excellent communication skills
    4. Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management diabetes insulin pen and pumps seizure management COVID-19 protocols and infection control
    5. Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization suctioning gastrostomy tube feedings insulin administration insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments
    6. Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally ethnically racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.
    7. Skilled with electronic health care record

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Baccalaureate or Associate degree in nursing
    2. Experience in pediatric acute care and/or community or public health nursing
    3. Prior experience in school nursing or acute care setting


    REPORTS TO: Health Services Coordinator LSN and building Principal

    PRIMARY ROLE: To provide primary health and emergency care to students promote wellness and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
    2. Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.
    3. Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
    4. Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
    5. Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
    6. Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.



    While most activities are standardized between the various health offices in the district each office has some individual differences in daily operations. The school specific information will be available in the school Substitute Nurse Manual when you arrive. It is the responsibility of the Substitute School Nurse to locate the Substitute Nurse Manual and become familiar with the operational procedures particular to each building.


    Compensation: $29.00 per hour
