SNC (Suffolk New College)are seeking a Youth and Safety Rangertoensure the safety and welfare of learners. Alongside this your administrative skills and proactive approach will contribute to a thriving educational environment.

You will ensure students have access to a safe and secure environment by maintaining a high profile in and around the college and proactively working with students in a security and support capacity.

You will encourage students to participate and enjoy their time at college by delivering social recreational and pastoral support activities that help engage students in college life.

As our Youth and Safety Ranger you will:

  • carry out a security role in and around the college sites at either Ipswich or Rural to ensure the student disciplinary code is upheld
  • support (when required) and operate the daily minibus shuttle service between college campuses ensuring passengers are safe and the service runs to time and schedule
  • identify and challenge student behaviour deemed outside the code of conduct
  • use a range of interventions to resolve conflict successfully including effective mediation strategies
  • complete incident reports gather and retain any relevant evidence ensuring it is kept in a secure location and destroyed when no longer required
  • liaise with police as necessary
  • maintain a high profile in the college including patrolling both inside and outside the college
  • deliver presentations throughout the year on subjects including personal safety bullying and equality and diversity.
  • liaise with Progress Tutors and Student Support staff
  • assist students with poor social skills behavioural or mental health difficulties to integrate helping them gain confidence and develop social skills
  • encourage students to sign up for social or sporting activities to help them to develop their communication skills
  • work with students as individuals or in groups on behavioural issues
  • provide pastoral support for students by listening to them identifying problems and finding practical solutions and when necessary acts as an advocate for students
  • attend classes and facilitates in-class group discussions on a range of personal social and health issues
  • keep records of classes attended and presentations given
  • contribute to main enrolment open evenings and induction event and cross college activity
  • comply with Health and Safety regulations and policy and implement these effectively throughout all aspects of the role
  • take a pro-active approach and responsibility for the well-being and safeguarding of all students

Any other duties and training as may be required by management which fall reasonably within the competence and level of job role.

The daytime ranger will be responsible for the supervision and safety of students in the lunchtime activity club.
