PositionOverview

The Jewish Education Project seeks a forward-thinking thoughtful and creative leader to serve as Senior Managing Director Think-Action Teama key role on our Jewish Education Team that will help shape the next era of Jewish learning across North America.

This position leads our work in imagining and building toward a thoughtful vision for Jewish education in the year 2050. The Senior Managing Director will oversee the Think-Action Team responsible for nurturing creative generative and experimental thinking and approaches to educational innovation.

This individual will guide a team dedicated to experimentation and innovation in the structure pedagogy and content of Jewish education. With a focus on evolving needs and emerging trends in both Jewish and general education and society at large they will work with fellows and full-time staff to advance thought leadership communal conversations and educational pilots that expand access to meaningful Jewish learning. A successful candidate will be a collaborative and relational leader with a growth-oriented learning-oriented mindset.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Visionary Leadership: Reporting to the Chief Jewish Education Officer (CJEO) and partnering closely with the CJEO and senior staff to reorient Jewish education toward identity-building experiences that produce self-assured literate proud Jews grounded in The Jewish Education Projects educational framework My Aspirations Playbook (MAP) and pride outcomes.
  • Thought Leadership: Building a new fellowship designed to expand the proliferation of ideas conversations and research towards a vision of and educational practice for the next 25 years of American Jewish life. Utilize research both original and curated to guide the thinking and learning of the organization and the field.
  • Field Innovation: Serving as a voice for experimentation change and creative transformation within the Jewish educational landscape.
  • Community Partnership: Working with entrepreneurs JCCs camps synagogues and families to co-create new access points and approaches to Jewish education that address todays most urgent challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an integral member of the Jewish Education Team contributing to organizational strategy and innovation.
  • Build and support a team with diverse responsibilities in stimulating conversations publications convenings research and experimentation.
  • Build and support a new fellowship designed to expand the team of thought leaders working to advance the thinking and contribution of The Jewish Education Project endeavors.
  • Build and support robust networks of educators and change-makers across North America.
  • Represent The Jewish Education Project as a public thought leader by speaking at regional and national conferences and contributing to articles blogs and social media.
  • Supervise and mentor team members ensuring alignment collaboration and accountability across initiatives.
  • Design and facilitate professional development fellowships cohorts workshops and training that introduce new educational approaches and inspire thoughtful thinking.
  • Collaborate on thoughtful planning research documentation and assessment to drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as a consultant and coach to educational leaders seeking to evolve their practice and adapt to emerging needs.

Experience Qualifications and Competencies

We welcome applicants with diverse cultural professional and educational backgrounds.

Required:

  • 10 years of experience in cultural secular pluralistic or otherwise creative Jewish educational environments.
  • A experience of leadership in educational innovation or change initiatives.
  • Experience working in or building start-up programs organizations or creative teams.
  • Demonstrated success as a supervisor team leader or project manager.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across sectors and communities.
  • A creative open to learning mindset with interest for experimentation and iteration.
  • You are a candidate who will embrace working in an environment that prioritizes:

    • Leading with humble self-assurance and competence
    • Reliability consistency and accountability.
    • Striving for excellence

Strongly Preferred:

  • Significant experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience facilitating professional development or educator cohorts.
  • Background in consulting coaching or managing organizational change.
  • Masters Degree or Phd in Jewish Education Jewish Communal Service Social Work or Organizational Leadership.

Additional Assets:

  • Experience in entrepreneurial or atypical Jewish educational spaces camps JCCs or family engagement.
  • Comfort working in both traditional and non-traditional Jewish educational settings.
  • Public speaking and written communication skills with experience teaching or presenting at conferences.
