Job Summary

The Times Square Fellows Program provides exceptional students or recent graduates interested in public service with the opportunity to work within one of the countrys most respected and high-profile non-profits. Fellowships are paid and are full-time for the summer. Times Square Fellows are assigned to a department to assist with and advance major projects or addition a core part of the program is regular professional development programming which includes lunches and talks with senior Alliance staff as well as community civic and governmental leaders.

Fellows are eligible to work in various areas some of which can include Public Arts Operations Administration Communications Policy Planning and Research Public Space Management and Government Affairs. Applicants must specify their first and second fellowship preferences when completing their application. Below are descriptions of each fellowship for Summer 2025.

Events & Programming Fellowship (Event Planning/Production)

The Alliance actively works to make Times Square an exciting and desirable destination through our various accessible programming initiatives from the iconic New Years Eve celebration to our annual Solstice in Times Square Yoga event and our programming series TSQ LIVE. TSQ LIVE features free concerts DJ sets Jazz Performances dance workshops and more 4 days a week from the beginning of May through the end of September. One key objective of the Alliances programming is to draw people to the neighborhood and its businesses throughout the year. Throughout the past three seasons TSQ LIVE has had the honor of hosting local and internationally acclaimed talent such as Mneskin The Warning Marcin Joel Corry Deborah De Luca Sungazer JORDY Paul Beaubrun and many more.

The Events & Programming Department works to choreograph the chaos of Times Square and is seeking an individual to serve as the Events & Programming Fellow. This individual will work closely with both our Events & Programming Manager and our Director of Events & Programming in the growth and execution of our fourth season of TSQ LIVE. The Events & Programming Fellow will focus heavily on the day-to-day logistics and execution of all TSQ LIVE events as well as our signature events Solstice in Times Square and Taste of Times Square. This is a very active hands-on role that requires quick problem-solving skills a self-starter mentality and strong attention to detail. Other assignments include pre-production event preparation and research into untapped diverse public offerings for future consideration.

Policy Planning & Research Fellowship

The Times Square Alliances Policy Planning and Research department has planned and executed some of the most prominent placemaking and capital development initiatives in New York City including the reconstruction of Father Duffy Square and the Broadway pedestrian plazas. The team has also built one of the most comprehensive urban research and data analysis programs and uses research to develop and advocate for innovative urban economic development and management policies that are informed by evidence and challenge accepted norms and practices. The department has also been involved with an array of advocacy efforts that have resulted in innovative pedestrian and traffic improvements and newer and more appropriate regulation of the public Times Square Alliance is seeking a highly motivatedPolicy & Research Fellowinterested in the growth and evolution of cities and urbanand public policyto help us manage evaluate and advocate for Times Square.

Operations Fellowship

The Operations Department works to keep the engine of Times Square going and is seeking a highly motivated scrappyOperations Fellow with a passion for collaboration creative problem-solving and data analytics. Candidates should have an interest in database management and maintenance public space realm and an enthusiasm for Times Square Alliances mission. The Fellow will work closely with the Operations Department in assisting with public safety and sanitation processes and the implementation of programming & event needs in the public space. Possible projects may range from in field surveying of public assets contributing to standard operating procedures and assisting with projects related to the maintenance and operation of the department and Times Square district. This position is not only an office position some time will be spent outside in the elements surveying and addressing issues within the Broadway Pedestrian Plazas and around the district.

Arts & Culture Research Fellowship

The mission of Times Square Arts is to collaborate with contemporary artists to experiment and engage with one of the worlds most iconic urban places. It is arguably the worlds largest public platform for innovative contemporary performance and visual arts reaching hundreds of thousands of people who pass through the district daily. More information can be found: Public Art Fellow will conduct focused research on the 1980 exhibitionThe Times Square Show and the site-specific works of the 42ndStreet Art Project from 1993. By gathering and logging archival material through in-house assets media from peer cultural institutions independent research and in-person visits to external archives this research willhelp inform future public art addition to research this Fellow will support the Project Manager on Midnight Moment specific administrative tasks like gathering artist assets creating signage and sharing documentation with stakeholders.

Digital Marketing Fellowship

The Digital Marketing Fellow will join our Communications department to help build and execute content on our social and digital marketing channels. We are seeking a creative storyteller who understands how to connect with social audiences through engaging copy images and video. The Digital Marketing Fellow will coordinate content across our social platforms (Instagram TikTok Facebook Twitter and YouTube) drive engagement and actualize their own ideas for campaigns and content. These projects could include capturing the experience of load-in or tech for a Broadway show; interviewing historians and capturing the history of Times Squares seedy past; or exploring the creative process behind public art works in Times Square. The Fellow will work alongside the Communications and Events teams to capture content and create social media coverage of major Alliance events including Solstice and Pride as well as TSQ LIVE our summer series that features outdoor concerts and performances four nights a week in Times Square. The Fellow will also learn how they can use data and analytics to create reports and evaluate campaigns. Candidates must have strong communication skills experience with social media an interest in video production and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Stakeholder Services Fellow description:

The Stakeholder Services Fellow will work to build and maintain strong relationships with the businesses employees residents and other stakeholders of Times Square. We are seeking an engaging communicator who is excited to connect with our constituency through direct outreach. The Fellow will be encouraged to research develop and pursue creative ideas for community engagement. The Fellow will be trained to update our stakeholder data on Salesforce and to create and evaluate reports for various communications and opportunities with our constituent groups. They will work with us on projects to support the overall level of safety cleanliness success and sense of pride among our constituents. These projects may include a range of activities such as supporting the grand opening of a new business; updating stakeholders on outdoor dining guidelines and other city regulations; and coordinating events and connecting with businesses on district walks. They will help craft communications related to the Alliances signature events and broader strategies like the Alliances advocacy agenda. The fellow will potentially collaborate on projects with other teams to learn about the range of services the organization provides and how it uses cross-departmental techniques to serve the various needs of the district. Applicants with a passion for community development communications or economic development are encouraged to apply. Strong writing and editing skills Salesforce experience an interest in DEI and an ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment are a plus.
