In editorial when a book proposal is received the editor decides whether or not to pursue it for acquisition. An editor works with the author to turn the manuscript into a finished book. They negotiate contracts edit the books for content structure and on a line-by-line basis and collaborate with internal departments on how to package market and publicize the book. Editors need to know whats trending what can sell to which target market and what fits with their particular imprint.

Some responsibilities may include:

  • Evaluating submissions and writing readers reports
  • Assisting with copy writing and researching comp titles
  • Attend virtual editorial meetings provide insights based on your own reading and in response to editors submissions.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS

Penguin Random House offers a 10-weekPAID REMOTEinternship opportunity available in our adult childrens and corporate divisions. Interns are exposed to the publishing process and our business through panels networking events and employee speaker series!

Summerinterns work for 28 hours per week and are paid $21/hour.

What you study does not matter! We are looking for your desire to work with books your drive to learn and your curiosity for the publishing industry.

REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be ready to work full-time on or before June 2027 (You do not need to be enrolled in college or have a degree to apply to our internship program).
  • Able to work 28 hours/week throughout the program
  • Available and commit to the program working June 8th 2026 August 13th 2026
  • Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program
  • Must be over the age of 18
