Job Description
Job Overview:

Program Overview:
Henry Streets Healthy Seniors Select Meals on Wheels program delivers approximately 1000 fresh and frozen meals every weekday to homebound Manhattan residents to help them stay healthy and independent in their own homes. This program is vitally important because many seniors have little to no access to nutritious meals. They are often too frail or have health complications that prevent them from preparing meals for themselves or from using Henry Streets Good Companions Senior Center where lunch and dinner are served on-site. Meals on Wheels ensures that older New Yorkers receive nutritionally balanced meals. Six meals are delivered weekly Monday through Friday; a weekend meal is delivered on Friday. Healthy Seniors Select Meals on Wheels is funded by the New York City Department for the Aging and City Meals-on-Wheels. It is operated in collaboration with University Settlement United Jewish Council of the LES the Chinese American Planning Council and Encore Community Services.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Good organizational planning and time management skills
- Prior Meals on Wheels programmatic experience a plus
- Knowledge of Department for the Aging (DFTA) policies and procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge of routing and delivery
- Excellent communication skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
- Able to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Responsibilities:
- Manage all incoming referrals and share the information with subcontractors or update Henry Streets routes.
- Update and maintain client lists databases and route sheets and print route sheets daily.
- Work with administrative staff to calculate and record client contributions in a spreadsheet.
- Answer all calls from program participants and case managers about meal delivery and log client complaints for follow-up.
- Communicate with the case management agency to provide delivery timeframes start dates and clients delivery status.
- Welcome new clients to the program through phone calls and by sending out welcome packets.
- Send daily notifications via email to the case management agency when clients are not home.
- Have daily meetings with the Program Manager and Coordinator to discuss discrepancies in delivery staff documentation meal orders and routing.
- Submit the daily meal order to the caterer and work closely with the caterer to make any necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate with other program staff to ensure customer service and client satisfaction.
- Monitor maintain and purchase delivery supplies.
- Provide route coverage.
- Organize temperature logs vehicle logs and meal taste logs.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Director Program Manager or Program Coordinator.
Essential Physical Job Functions:
- Must be able to deliver and drive when needed
- Must be able to walk up at least 5 flights of stairs
- Must be able to lift 40lbs
