Commercial Underwriter
Seeking a diligent and experienced Commercial Underwriter to join a team. This role is responsible for assessing and analyzing insurance applications for commercial clients evaluating risks and determining appropriate coverage and premiums. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills excellent attention to detail and a deep understanding of commercial insurance policies and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Evaluate quote and negotiate pricing for new and renewal applications including coverage changes during the policy term.
- Analyze risks in alignment with company guidelines ISO NCCI statutory requirements and coverage forms.
- Manage and develop agency relationships including prospecting appointments performance reviews and potential terminations.
- Travel as needed to maintain territory build relationships and support sales/marketing efforts.
- Solicit new business and retain renewals through effective presentations to agencies and customers.
- Achieve profitable underwriting results by setting and meeting premium loss ratio and growth targets.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of corporate regulatory and competitive market changes.
- Coordinate with internal teams to promote risk control claims and premium audit service plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance Insurance Risk Management or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience with expertise in:
- Field underwriting within industries such as construction oil & gas forest products and manufacturing.
- New and renewal business underwriting including pricing and commercial lines policy forms.
- Risk analysis and exposure management.
- Agency management and development.
- External sales and relationship building.
