Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected begin October 2025 or soon thereafter.

Duties:

  1. Assist with decommissioning the Jarvi Lab.
  2. Other duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors Degree from an accredited four-year institution in a science-related field.
  2. Four (4) years progressive experience working in a laboratory setting.
  3. Evidence of a working knowledge of microscopy manipulation and visualization of nematodes troubleshooting and experimental design.
  4. Working knowledge of the equipment required to conduct these studies.
  5. At least one (1) year of working experience with procurement procedures.
  6. Experience supervising student research in the laboratory.
  7. Demonstrated ability to write scientific manuscripts.


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of rat lungworm disease caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis its life cycle and means of transmission.
  2. Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in a science-related field.
  3. At least two (2) years experience in a laboratory setting
  4. At least one (1) year of experience in the recruitment and supervision of interns and students.
  5. Understanding molecular biology techniques
  6. Ability to conduct molecular techniques including real-time PCR microscopy manipulation and visualization of nematodes.
  7. Ability to summarize data in preparation for scientific manuscripts.
