Job Summary

Postdoctoral research fellow is sought to undertake a mentored innovative project focused on external drivers of sinonasal inflammatory disease in the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.


Qualifications

Postdoctoral research fellow is sought to undertake a mentored innovative project focused on external drivers of sinonasal inflammatory disease in the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The Principal Investigators primary research centers on the inflammatory and disruptive effects of microplastics nanoplastics and PFAS chemicals on nasal epithelium and mucus with a recent grant funded through 2027. There is also opportunity for participation in adjacent and parallel projects studying upper respiratory infection inflammation and translational therapeutics. Candidate will assist in the conception and design of in vitro and in vivo experimentation performance of stated experiments and analysis and presentation of the outcome. Dr. Workman the primary mentor is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Eye and Ear and appointment will be through Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Mass General addition to one-on-one mentorship laboratory meetings are conducted in conjunction with the lab of Dr. Benjmain Bleier MD Professor of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery at MEE/HMS and Dr. Mansoor Amiji PhD University Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University.

The position is available immediately and can be renewed annually. There is a preference for candidates who can start between October 2025 and November 2025. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read analyze and summarize published literature
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experimentation
  • Undertake relevant coursework if required by mentor.
  • Attend relevant meetings
  • Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
  • Plan and deliver a seminar on the project
  • Take administrative (inventory purchasing etc. ) responsibilities in the lab when necessary
  • Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Doctoral degree (MD or PhD) with more than 1 year of lab experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs. depending on nature of chosen project(s).
