Controller/Payroll Coordinator

Type: In-Office Contract (until January 2026 with possibility of extension)
Hours: Monday Friday

Key Responsibilities

As the Controller/Payroll Coordinator you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate payroll processing while supporting the finance function of the dealership. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Payroll Administration:

    • Process payroll for dealership staff (250) ensuring accuracy and compliance with provincial and federal regulations.

    • Maintain employee payroll records including new hires terminations and changes.

    • Prepare and distribute ROEs T4s and year-end payroll documentation.

    • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay deductions and benefits.

    • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with dealership policies and employment standards.

    • Work with the Clarity Payroll System to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.

  • Accounting Support:

    • Assist the CFO with daily accounting functions including Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable Payroll and General Ledger.

    • Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

    • Reconcile GL accounts schedules and inventory accounts (vehicles and parts).

    • Collaborate with accounting staff and department managers to resolve discrepancies and maintain accuracy.

    • Ensure proper documentation and organization of financial records.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.

    • 3 years of accounting experience preferably in the automotive or dealership industry.

    • 2 years of payroll experience preferably in the automotive or dealership industry.

    • Diploma or certification in Payroll/Accounting (PCP designation an asset).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Experience with dealership accounting systems (PBS Systems) is a strong asset.

    • Proficiency with payroll software (Clarity System).

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills.

    • Strong knowledge of Canadian and Alberta payroll regulations and compliance.

  • Key Competencies:

    • Excellent attention to detail organizational and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

    • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

    • Ability to work independently meet deadlines and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
