TEACHER OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED Cascade Regional Inclusive Services

Classification: Licensed 190 day calendar

Reports to: Cascade Regional Inclusive Services Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

Teachers of the Visually Impaired provide assessment consultation technical assistance and/or direct instruction for children and students who are blind or have vision impairments. As a member of this dynamic team of professionals you will offer supports to school-district staff in Linn Benton and Lincoln Counties. This rewarding role provides the necessary services for students who experience disabilities to access their education in a meaningful and successful way. As part of our regional delivery model the specialist in this position is surrounded by a team of professionals to consult problem solve and coordinate educational supports for students with vision needs across our tri-county area.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) Special Education: Visually Impaired teaching license with ability to serve children birth 21 years is required. Dual certification for Orientation and Mobility is strongly preferred.

2. Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field of study is required. A Masters Degree in Education with concentration in Visual Impairment is preferred.

3. Direct experience working with students who have visual impairment.

4. Successful experience in providing consultation and direct services to students teachers and families.

5. Computer skills for word processing and data entry.

6. Effective oral and written communication skills.

7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the LBL Board of Directors/Superintendent find appropriate and acceptable

GENERAL INFORMATION

This position has the following expectations and requisite abilities.

5. Demonstrates respectful flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation communication and active participation.

6. Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.

7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.

8. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines attending meetings and following schedules.

9. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators students and district staff as directed.

10. Ability to lift carry at least 25 pounds.

11. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities skills and duties associated with this position. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time its deemed necessary.

1. Provide comprehensive assessment of students with vision impairment and perform functional vision and learning media assessments on new referrals and for three-year re-evaluations.

2. Prepare records and reports for eligibility evaluations services IEP/IFSP and transitions according to program procedures or as directed.

3. Participate as a specialist in the area of visual impairment in determining eligibility.

4. Participate in the preparation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) for identified students on caseload.

5. Provide eligible students with appropriate instruction expanded core curriculum accommodations and modifications for the visually impaired.

6. Provide Braille instruction limited transcription and support for school teams in timely acquisition of educational materials in a format accessible by individual students.

7. Provide direct instruction as identified on students IEPs/IFSPs in the areas of need related to visual impairment.

8. Provide Orientation and Mobility Instruction as per certification.

9. Design create and adapt materials and equipment to provide support in educational setting.

10. Serve as a resource consultant and trainer to provide specialized suggestions and/or materials for use by educators and/or parents and assist with registering students with the appropriate agencies that serve the Visually Impaired.

11. Assist teams to determine assistive technology needs and provide training in order to ensure access to specially designed instruction and the general education curriculum.

12. Monitor programs using observation data collection and pre-post assessment.

13. Synthesize and integrate sensitive clinical educational and interpersonal issues regarding change disabilities grief and loss.

SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION

  • Licensed employees are represented by Linn Benton Lincoln Education Association
  • Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
  • Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD licensed salary schedule will be commensurate with applicants qualifications relevant training and experience
  • Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health dental and vision insurance premiums
