Founded in 1970 by a behavioral health hospital and incorporated as a
501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1983 TLC is an entrepreneurial social enterprise committed to transforming
lives and communitiesone moment one choice one connection at a time. Headquartered in
Pennsylvania TLC operates across multiple states providing K-12 alternative education
comprehensive mental and behavioral health services coaching counseling and trauma- informed
training. Additionally TLC collaborates with school districts universities hospitals police
departments and nonprofit organizations
offering consultation services to secure federal and state grant funding.
Summary: This position will provide college awareness and preparation services for middle and high
school students in the Norristown Area School District (NASD) in order to meet the requirements of
the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) program. The GEAR UP
program is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant and provides services and resources to a
cohort of students with the goal of increasing high school graduation and college awareness
acceptance and readiness.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
This position may be assigned any of the following activities duties or responsibilities as
assigned by the Norristown Project Director or TLC Chief Grants Officer. This list is not a

Coordination and Collaboration
Increase college awareness and readiness by facilitating GEAR UP activities including
counseling mentoring tutoring remediation enrichment summer
programs college visits job shadowing and financial literacy workshops
Coordinate coaching counseling mentoring and tutoring activities at participating
schools
Collaborate with teachers to plan prepare and deliver mentoring and tutoring services
Collaborate and coordinate with district personnel school staff and GEAR UP partners to
provide services and resources to participating cohort students
Act as the liaison between the TLC and Norristown school district administration and
teachers
Direct Student Services
Provide direct academic instruction and guidance according to students needs abilities and
achievements
Provide a variety of academic materials and resources
Ensure high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of subjects
while maintaining high flexibility
Assess record and report on students development progress goal attainment and
behavior
Encourage and monitor the progress of students and use information to adjust teaching
strategies
Communicate necessary information regularly to students and school staff regarding students
progress and needs
Provide counseling and case management services for students and families
Conduct after school program activities at TLCs Leadership Academy
Data Collection and Tracking
Collaborate with GEAR UP evaluator to track all student-level activities
Maintain accurate documentation of service objectives and outcomes as well as other services in
accordance with GEAR UP guidelines
Meetings and Conferences
Attend required meetings training/education including GEAR UP conferences as
requested

Education and Experience:
Minimum Bachelors degree. Masters degree preferred but not required.

Hours of Work: This is a full-time 40 hours per week 10-month position for duration of grant
period
Work Environment: Office and school settings
Travel: Travel to various school sites in Norristown Area School District and TLC. Other travel to
colleges/universities and corporations for college visits and job shadowing activities.
