Accounting Manager Real Estate Location: Washington DC (Hybrid: 23 days/week in-office)
Employment Type: Full-TimeAbout the OpportunityA leading real estate organization in the DC Metro area is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join its corporate finance team. This organization specializes in multifamily and mixed-use properties and operates in a fast-paced growth-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience from REITs or similar real estate platforms and will be comfortable managing accounting operations across multiple entities and projects.This is a high-impact role with visibility across finance operations and leadership. The Accounting Manager will oversee general ledger activities financial reporting and internal controls while supporting budgeting audits and system improvements.Key Responsibilities- Manage month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
- Oversee accounts payable accounts receivable and bank reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Support external audits and coordinate with third-party auditors
- Assist with budgeting forecasting and variance analysis
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and processes
- Collaborate with property management and asset management teams
- Supervise junior accounting staff and support professional development
Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
- 5 years of accounting experience ideally in real estate or REIT environments
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
- Experience with property-level and corporate-level accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Yardi MRI NetSuite)
- Excellent organizational analytical and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting
