The Houlton Process Engineer position is responsible for providing technical expertise and capital project execution for Tate & Lyles specialty starch plant located in Houlton ME. The engineer in this position will ensure the operation produces product that meets all quality cost and efficiency requirements. This position will design develop and implement continuous process improvements to meet goals established by the business/location along with providing technical guidance to the plant operations teams to assist with process troubleshooting and developing corrective action plans.
This role is within the NOAM Engineering Group and will have a strong dotted line to the Houlton plant manager.
MAIN JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Technical Leadership and Expertise
Provide technical expertise and leadership for Tate & Lyles specialty starch plant.
Apply standard engineering theories concepts and techniques along with a working knowledge of related disciplines.
Provide technical safety expertise.
2. Project Management and Execution
Execute the development design installation and startup of capital projects to improve safety increase throughput reduce costs and improve quality.
Conduct and participate in engineering projects monitoring day-to-day production results and translating processes to flow sheet representation.
Design and specify operation of plant processes obtaining organizing and interpreting engineering data.
Perform economic and technical analyses of projects.
3. Problem Solving and Process Improvement
Identify troubleshoot and resolve technical process issues.
Ensure systems are in place to track key process parameters and overall process performance.
Conduct root cause analysis to provide improvement opportunities.
Work on a wide range of troubleshooting problems using basic knowledge of the process and creative thinking to solve problems and recommend corrective actions.
4. Collaboration and Communication
Work with other site leadership corporate engineers and production personnel.
Display ability to collaborate with Maintenance Accounting Purchasing Research Suppliers and other support-related groups and professional organizations.
Develop and maintain working relationships with peers at other plants.
5. Reporting and Supervision
Report to the NOAM Engineering Director with direction from local Plant Manager or Production Manager.
Provide technical supervision and instructions to process operators and assist entry-level professionals in procedural and technical matters.
Work receives moderate direction and supervision with work plans reviewed for accuracy completeness and timeliness.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is potentially exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on site. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather heat and humidity and exposure to addition this job also operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers and filing cabinets.

The incumbent will be measured against site EHS Quality Production Reliability and Leadership goals.
Skills and Experience Required
Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering or related engineering field
Experience developing and managing capital projects is a plus
Experience providing production support is a plus
Tate & Lyle complies with all local/state regulations requiring salary range transparency.
When determining final compensation we take into consideration: skillset job scope knowledge prior experience cost of living market data budget availability and other factors as permitted by law.
The salary range for this position is: $556000 -to- $92600.
