Job Duties:

The Department of Sociology Criminology & Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for a full-time instructor position to teach courses in the areas of criminology and criminal investigation.

This is a 9-month fixed-term appointment with reappointment for subsequent terms dependent on performance University needs funding staffing requirements and enrollment. For information on fixed-term contracts please see:UW System Admin Policy 1250: Job Security.

Job Details:

The successful candidate will be able to teach Criminal Investigation Investigation of Death Criminal Investigation of Child Abuse and Introduction to Criminology. The possibility also exists of teaching other courses serving criminology and general education dependent on need and rotation. The contract period is for one academic year with the possibility of reappointment.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching nine courses (27 credits) per academic year. Instructors at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats including in-person online and/or in a hybrid format or courses in the evenings. All students faculty and staff are required to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include but are not limited to Navigate Canvas and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.

Department Information:

Sociology Criminology and Anthropology ( is a multi-disciplinary department that has 14 full and part-time faculty and academic staff. It serves over 200 undergraduate majors and over 200 minors. It offers five undergraduate certificate programs two student organizations two national honor societies as well as internship and undergraduate research opportunities for all students. Compensation:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting salary of $50000 commensurate with the candidates education related experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications include a masters degree in criminology sociology or closely related field and a demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in law enforcement/criminal investigation is desired.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
