Job Description

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nations oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 177000 apartments and responsibility for administering a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 150000 additional tenants. NYCHAs mission is to provide quality housing for New Yorkers that is sustainable inclusive and safe while fostering opportunities for economic mobility.

NYCHAs Asset & Capital Management (A&CM) Division leads the Authoritys capital sustainability and resiliency programs that comprise a $6 billion capital projects portfolio one of the largest in NY State as well as a range of activities related to property modernization and strategic asset management. A&CM aims to preserve and modernize NYCHA buildings and apartments through strategic portfolio planning comprehensive design standards innovative financing and project delivery models strong partnership with NYCHA residents and other stakeholders and effective program and project management of capital investments. The Division also positions NYCHAs housing portfolio for the future by piloting and scaling-up sustainable and resilient technologies and practices improving residents quality of life while enhancing building performance. The work culture of the Division is strongly customer service oriented collaborative and delivery-focused.

Architecture & Engineering Services (AES) partners closely with other A&CM departments to deliver capital projects and other strategic initiatives. AES provides design services as well as oversight of architecture and engineering firms involved in projects while setting overall design standards and performance requirements that apply to all NYCHA modernization programs. This includes expediting and other interagency coordination code and standards analysis and technical investigation and advisory services. The department is organized into three main teams that comprise a number of architecture engineering landscape and urban design studios as well as other specialized units.

Reporting to the Managing Electrical Engineer with great latitude for independent judgment the successful candidate will perform highly difficult and technically complex work as an engineering specialist with electrical engineering expertise. The selected candidate will also provide guidance to the Electrical Engineering design project teams and monitor electrical systems tasks.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

complex plans specifications and project schedules.
project coordination and ensure completion of engineering tasks.
field visits (surveys in pre-design and design phase and inspections of projects under construction) and emergency site visits including investigation of unsafe conditions throughout all five boroughs.
complex existing conditions assessments and feasibility reports.
complex specifications and construction drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
support during all phases of design and construction.
construction documents and constructability reviews.
with design teams to establish and assure implementation of electrical design standards for the Capital Program.
cost estimates track project schedules and budgets.
weekly project progress and status reports.
and seal engineering and other official documents.
projects designed by consultants.
serve as a Leader on a project of great technical complexity.
the Office of Engineering Services & Oversite at inter-departmental meetings.
as Unit Liaison for electrical engineering issues.
Electrical and Fire Codes and assure compliance with those codes.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - 20315


Qualifications :

(1) Four (4) years of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineers License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university accredited by regional national professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the electrical engineering experience required in 1 above.
