Division Head, General Anesthesiology

General Summary of Position Responsibility:

Reporting to the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief & Department Chair at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago (the Hospital). The Division Head General Anesthesiology has shared responsibility for the missions of clinical care education research and advocacy for the Department of Pediatric Anesthesia (the Department). The Division Head provides program support and is responsible to the Chair for the clinical and academic mission of the team. Experience in leading research efforts is a plus.

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

• Plan organize and direct activities within the Division to support the clinical training and advocacy missions of the Medical Center. Support and/or organize research related activities within the Division
• Work in collaboration and positively across disciplines and sites to achieve organizational goals and objectives including with other Executive leaders.
• Recruit develop and retain clinical and research faculty trainees and students.
• Collaborate on strategic direction for operations and services for the Division including the perioperative and procedural areas inpatient units and ambulatory setting.
• Partner with key leaders and stakeholders to optimize performance of Perioperative/Surgical operations.
• Support the expansion and growth of surgical and procedural services in support of the Medical Center outreach strategies.
• Communicate with surgical and procedural partners to ensure best practices and to identify and promote various opportunities for faculty and trainees of the Division.
• Work with Anesthesiologist-in-Chief to facilitate and support research activities within the Division and to support Department & Organizational research goals that align with the focused research initiatives of the Stanley Manne Childrens Research Institute and of Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine NUFSM. Support collaboration with investigators across the Division Department and within the Medical Center to support this research.
• Support the communication with local and national study collaborators as well as clinical research organizations to participate in multicenter collaborations and facilitate research projects for faculty and fellows.
• Partners to support education for the NUFSM/McGaw students and trainees and outside programs. Ensure that compliance of all regulatory requirements of programs is achieved.
• Partner to maintain a quality and safety program within the division that improves safety and key metrics performance.
• Provide guidance to faculty within the Division to encourage and facilitate academic promotions within the Department of Anesthesia at NUFSM.
• Develop and coordinate short-and long-range goals for the Division and Faculty ensuring that Divisional activities enhance the objectives of the Department.
• Exhibit fiscal responsiblilty by collaborating with all billing coding and collections for the professional group LCPAA.
• Represent the Division & Department as a leader and serve as committee member as requested by the Department Chair.
• Serve as a committee member and actively participate in medical center-wide leadership groups.
• Participate in activities of NUFSM. Collaborate with the Department Chair of Anesthesia to enhance and support clinical educational and research activities between institutions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Licensed physician (MD or DO) in the State of Illinois with board certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
• A professional profile as a leader in anesthesia and academic medicine.
• Record of medical management experience ideally in a complex high performing academic medical center with a focus on exceptional patient care.
• Experience working in partnership with multiple constituents throughout an organization. This includes achieving consensus through presentations thought leadership partnership and relationship building throughout the organization.
• Knowledge of organization policies procedures systems and objectives. Knowledge of fiscal management and human resource management techniques.
• Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a changing environment.
• Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of managers regulators payers contractors vendors customers etc.

At Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
