THIS POSTING IS CURRENTLY BEING USED FOR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FLOOR PROTECTION AUTHORITY - EAST CAREER FAIR ON OCTOBER 15 2025.

Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure the physical operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local regional state and federal partners to plan design construct operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.

About this position
The Engineering Technician 2-4 receives functional supervision from the Engineer Intern 1-2 of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) and is directly supervised by the Engineer 5. The incumbent performs inspections of the following flood protection systems: levees floodwalls floodgates and other related facilities required for the SLFPA-E and its jurisdictions (Orleans Levee District Lake Borgne Basin Levee District East Jefferson Levee District). Engineering Technician will also support the engineering permit department by checking construction sites for adherence with permit provisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus one year of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering heavy mobile equipment operation or mobile equipment maintenance plus one year of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture cartography construction management construction technology drafting engineering engineering graphics engineering technology industrial technology landscape architecture math or physics.

Work Schedule:This is a full-time position (40-hour work week); it offers a flexible work schedule.
Compensation:Full-time employees are eligible for a compressive benefits package including participation in the states retirement plan health insurance agency-paid short-term disability coverage paid holidays and paid annual and sick leave.

**Note: During emergencies such as hurricanes or other severe weather conditions conducive to flooding the incumbent is assigned to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Incumbent will be required to become certified as a levee inspector in the State of Louisiana (LA CPRA).**
