Job Description

Position Summary

The Financial Coordinator FH provides direct services to low-to-moderate income individuals who have expressed an interest in achieving a financial goal. This position is responsible for assisting clients in developing plans of action that are intended to help them reach their goals and achieve financial stability. The Financial Coordinator will provide services in a one-on-one training format as well as hold group training sessions and workshops related to budgeting credit building banking products and public benefits. This position will work with the Family Hub staff family workers and senior services staff to ensure that the client is getting assistance across these four major service areas. The Financial Coordinator will also engage in outreach and networking with clients community members business entities local financial institutions and Chicago Commons staff to serve families effectively.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • A bachelors degree in finance economics or related field PREFERRED.
  • Two years of related field experience with a non-profit or community partnership organization.

Experience & Training Requirements

  • Bilingual - fluent in English/Spanish preferred.
  • A strong understanding of personal finances particularly in the areas of budgeting asset building credit building and public benefits services.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship programs a plus.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral. Must be comfortable presenting to small and medium-sized groups.
  • Must be a self-starter and a team player.
  • Have the ability to provide financial coaching and training services in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Excel Salesforce PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate data via reports.
  • Previous work experience in the financial sector (banking lending insurance investments or nonprofit financial coaching) required.

Desired Outcomes

  • Track and provide one-on-one training and coaching to a caseload of 20 parents every 6 months.
  • Update service plans budgets credit score repair plans and balance sheets every 3-6 months and submit reports based on data once each update is completed.
  • Track and increase financial literacy of participants attending financial education workshops.
  • Respond to all referrals made for financial services to the Family Hub within 48 hours of receipt.
  • Developing a calendar of activities 4-6 months in advance.
  • Increasing number of families attending financial education workshops including parent meetings at least four times a year.
  • Experience or interest in coaching individuals on entrepreneurship development.
  • Ability to connect clients with community resources and tools to support business growth.

Essential Job Requirements & Duties

  • Engage Chicago Commons families in one-on-one financial training and education services.
  • Collaborate and establish an active working relationship with family workers and senior services staff.
  • Identify clients income support needs including the need for public benefit services assist them with their application process or ensure proper network referral.
  • Identify and track participants eligible for public benefits through training process and enroll in WIC/SNAP services as they are identified.
  • Deliver workshops on financial aid and sources of support for students who are undocumented DACA and US citizens.â
  • Assist clients in resolving current financial situations while providing a wide lens on their financial health to shift the approach to proactive financial management and planning.
  • Complete a financial assessment intake form with all financial coaching clients.
  • Assist the client in developing a budget and provide strategies for budget improvements.
  • Access the clients credit report/score and provide strategies for credit repair/building.
  • Document the clients balance sheet and provide strategies for increasing net worth.
  • Develop plans of action and provide tools resources and accountability to the client to help them meet their goals.
  • Conduct or coordinate relevant periodic participant-informed group training sessions or workshops across all Chicago Commons service areas.
  • Track programmatic outcomes client stories and successes of program participants.
  • Document and enter all client coaching activities and workshop participation in Salesforce (or other established database) in a timely manner.
  • Meet or exceed established goals and metrics set by Family Hub team or Department Director by the end of each fiscal year (June 30).
  • Conduct and/ or coordinate workshops in partnership with local institutions.
  • Develop relationships with local financial institutions and community organizations to create and foster a network of referral organizations to help assist with Chicago Commons clients financial goals.
  • Present financial education workshops twice per month
  • Support mutual aid table once a month from April-October
  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team providing services to families served by the Family Hub sharing information participating in team meetings and helping to track and report progress and outcomes.
  • Research best practices and create 2-Gen programs that engage children and their caregiver(s) in financial literacy.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Employees will regularly need to communicate in English both in person and over the telephone. Proficiency in reading English is essential. Frequent operation of a word-processing system is required including the ability to read produce and transmit data effectively.

The role involves frequent standing walking reaching with hands and arms and occasional stooping kneeling crouching or crawling. Employees should be capable of lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasion. Additionally specific vision requirements include the ability to see close range.
