RATE: Compensation is task-related and commensurate with candidate experience
TIME: November start for consulting projects in local and regional schools on a per-diem and/or hourly basis
About TCPThe mission of The Calculus Project is to use research-supported strategies to increase the representation and success of Black Hispanic and low-income students in advanced mathematics. There are seven distinct components that support students year-round and we work with ten districts in greater Boston on a regular basis.
About the PositionThe TCP Math Consultant helps schools and districts build and sustain a culture of access and equity in math education. They work with teachers to strengthen classroom communities promote a growth mindset and use varied culturally relevant teaching and assessment methods including multilingual to TCPs Director of Operations and Development the Math Consultant may:
- Observe instruction and advise schools on improvement strategies
- Develop math curriculum (e.g. high school units on energy generation)
- Support the creation of common math assessments
- Help teachers integrate technology tools such as Desmos IXL and iReady
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver professional development sessions for teachers and administrators
- Serve as team member or leader for math program reviews
- Assist schools to implement improvement processes and measure impact of math initiatives
- Build project-based high school curriculum anchored in math standards
- Support teachers to create common formative assessments in math
Qualifications- At least 10 years in the field of secondary math education as a teacher and/or leader with experience teaching multiple levels and courses
- Experience implementing/familiarity with widely used math curriculum and assessments as well as experience designing curricula and assessments
- Experience observing coaching and/or consulting in schools
- Strong organizational written and verbal communication skills
- Creativity and ability to foster curiosity and excitement about learning mathematics
- Advanced degree in mathematics and/or education preferred
