The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University seeks two full-time Clinical Assistant Professors in the Department of Counseling.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach counseling courses and utilize generalist teaching skills for core counseling curriculum which includes culturally sustaining content and strategies across the foundational curriculum in keeping with CACREP standards.
- Academic (individual and group) advising.
- Curriculum development and/or oversight.
- Provide clinical supervision of students as needed related to clinical courses.
- Support departmental program projects and events.
- Provide service to the School and University.
This is a renewable non-tenured position with the initial one-year appointment beginning August 2026.
Required qualifications include:
- A doctoral degree in counseling or counselor education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a CACREP-accredited program.
- A doctoral degree in a related field and previous employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of 1 full academic year before July 1 2013.
- Teaching experience in counseling-related courses including clinical courses and counseling core curriculum.
- Demonstrated identity as a counselor educator and clinician as evidenced by sustained participation in professional activities scholarly activities and service to the profession.
- Clinical experience in the field and clinical supervisory experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- LPC licensure
- Marriage couple and family counseling experience
- School counseling experience
- Addiction/substance abuse counseling experience
- One to three years teaching experience
