Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Isle of Wight to assist with the appointment of a Maintenance Operative - Trades & Operatives on a 5-month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 16.80 - 21.41 per hour

Summary:

To undertake individually or as part of a team the maintenance and upkeep of the Isle of Wights public rights of way network. The role ensures safe accessible and convenient use of the network by the public through the construction repair and upkeep of associated infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive a 4x4 vehicle in line with current driving standards (holding a full ordinary driving licence).
  • Operate and maintain grass and hedge cutting machinery chainsaws pole saws strimmers and hand tools (with appropriate certification).
  • Undertake vegetation clearance including cutting back hedges rough verges and removal of small trees/branches.
  • Install and maintain rights of way infrastructure including posts signage stiles gates bridges steps and fencing.
  • Construct and maintain paths surfaces and drainage systems.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE-level qualifications or equivalent experience.

Requirements:
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent.
  • Valid certification for chainsaw operation cross-cutting and other relevant equipment.
  • Valid Safety Health and Welfare training certificates.
  • Practical experience in countryside agricultural grounds or rights of way maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety procedures including risk assessments.
  • Ability to safely and competently use 4x4 vehicles strimmers chainsaws pole saws and hand tools.
  • Tact patience and good interpersonal skills when dealing with the public and landowners.
  • Physically fit able to walk up to six miles per day and work in all weather conditions including lone working.
