Cornell University Library is seeking applications for a Copyright Librarian.
Reporting to the Director of Digitization and Conservation Services the Copyright Librarian plays a central role in guiding the Librarys efforts to ensure broad access to scholarly resources in compliance with U.S. copyright laws and institutional use this role you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Library to support digital collections licensing and other Library services. You will also support responsible and sustainable practices in the creation and use of digital and licensed content collaborating with Library administration and Cornells Office of General Counsel as needed. The Copyright Librarian serves as the Librarys primary internal resource on copyright providing consultations related to Library workflows and projects with complex copyright issues particularly for digital collections initiated by Library personnel. The position also reviews and evaluates licensing agreements and contracts for Library resources.
Librarians at Cornell University hold academic appointments as Research Teaching and Extension faculty. The incumbent must meet Cornell University Library requirements for Research Teaching and Extension (RTE) faculty promotion and reappointment through engagement in service and scholarship activities.
Candidate profile:
A masters degree in library and information sciences (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced degree with relevant professional experience in an academic or legal setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. copyright law and its application to libraries archives and digital content.
Experience interpreting and advising on licensing copyright agreements or contracts.
Excellent communication collaboration and project management skills.
Commitment to Cornells mission of any personany study and the profession of librarianship.
Additionally wed prefer:
Experience working with special collections digital projects or scholarly communication initiatives.
Experience reviewing licensing language or legal agreements.
Work location: This position is located in Ithaca New York. The incumbent will work primarily on the Ithaca campus with potential to enter into a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work up to 2 days per week that are based on our business needs. The university reserves the right to modify suspend revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
The New York convenience of employer guidelines requires New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

We anticipate filling this position at the academic rank of Assistant Librarian. Based on Cornells internal procedures and ranking structure an Assistant Librarian would typically include individuals who have up to three years of relevant experience in a professional librarian appointment.
