Salary Scale: MPS/UPS (32916 - 51048) Contract & Start: Permanent Full-Time January 2026

About the RoleThis institution one of Britains top state schools in Birmingham presents an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Teacher of English to join its community on a permanent full-time basis starting 01 January 2026. The school founded nearly 500 years ago is a happy and thriving school committed to excellence equality diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and inspirational teacher able to engage enthuse and motivate highly able pupils across the age range including A-Level. The school encourages applications from both ECTs and experienced teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a challenging and ambitious English curriculum across all key stages with a focus on advanced literary and language study at A-Level.
  • Demonstrate a passion for learning and apply a range of engaging teaching skills and behaviour management strategies tailored to highly motivated students.
  • Contribute to the departments outstanding record of results (e.g. 67% A* - B at A-Level; 79% 9-7 in English Language GCSE) supporting all pupils to excel.
  • Work collaboratively within a friendly talented and supportive teaching team.
  • Support the schools commitment to the vibrant extra-curricular life potentially contributing to debating drama or literary societies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent and a relevant degree specialism in English.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling effective teaching throughout the age range including A-Level.
  • The ability to inspire young people and help them to excel as citizens in a warm community that celebrates difference.
  • A commitment to continuous professional career development.
  • A dedication to the schools mission of providing an ambitious and well-rounded curriculum.
