TITLE: Transportation Supervisor

About the Role:
Under general direction the Transportation Supervisor assists in the daily operations training and personnel management of the districts transportation department. This role ensures the safe efficient and timely transportation of students while also supervising and supporting transportation staff in alignment with district state and federal policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or related field preferred; OR Four (4) years of experience in the transportation field including two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Must have experience as a certified bus driver.

Licenses/Certification

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.
  • DPS Bus Driver Certification.
  • Hold or able to obtain DPS School Bus Driver Classroom and Behind-the-Wheel Trainer Certifications.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of supervision principles staff development and personnel management.
  • Strong understanding of transportation planning and operational logistics.
  • Familiarity with federal state and local transportation regulations and compliance standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and maintain data and records accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff schools and the public.
  • Proficiency in computer usage including data entry and retrieval.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and support transportation department staff including scheduling timekeeping hiring evaluating and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain personnel records transportation reports and all required documentation for compliance and internal use.
  • Investigate and respond to concerns or complaints from staff parents and community members regarding safety student behavior or driver conduct.
  • Facilitate and manage comprehensive training programs for all transportation personnel including new driver onboarding and annual certification processes.
  • Administer employee performance evaluations and participate in professional development planning.
  • Attend and lead safety meetings; promote and reinforce a culture of safety and accountability.
  • May be required to drive buses for regular routes or extracurricular events as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation & Safety.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work involves both office and field settings
  • May require irregular hours including early mornings evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies and critical incidents

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit stand walk bend reach and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must meet physical standards for bus drivers as determined by DOT and DPS guidelines
