Position Summary:
The Communications Director is responsible for developing implementing and evaluating a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the mission and ministries of the church. This role ensures consistent engaging and effective messaging across all platforms both internally and externally while maintaining brand integrity and fostering community engagement. The Communications Director will be instrumental in telling the story of Peace Lutheran Church.
Strategic Planning & Leadership
Collaborate with the Leadership and Communications Teams to develop and evaluate the annual communications strategy based on a ministry communications audit.
Lead Communications Team meetings to plan and implement upcoming content and collateral.
Supervise communications staff and volunteers fostering creativity and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Digital & Print Media Management
Maintain and update church websites (e.g. ) ensuring user-friendly design current content and technical functionality (domains plugins updates).
Design and create print and digital graphics for worship services events and ministry initiatives.
Develop and maintain a communications editorial calendar covering print web video podcast blog email and social media.
Write and edit engaging content for newsletters bulletins email blasts blogs and other publications.
Social Media & Community Engagement
Manage and maintain a vibrant social media presence across platforms including Facebook Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
Engage the surrounding community using digital marketing tools such as Google Ads and social media campaigns.
Coordinate and produce weekly video content podcasts and mission-focused media pieces.
Oversee outside signage blogs vlogs and other outreach tools to promote events and ministries.
Collaboration & Training
Work closely with ministry leaders and volunteers to develop and execute communications plans for events and initiatives.
Provide training for staff and ministry leaders on new communication tools and platforms.
Collaborate with leadership to ensure campus aligns with brand standards and mission.
Content & Data Management
Input and refine bulletin announcements and other worship-related communications.
Maintain a video and photo library including editing and archiving worship service recordings and event photography.
Track analytics and trends to evaluate communication effectiveness and inform future strategies.
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all communications-related tasks.
Administrative
Regularly attend weekly staff meetings and annual retreats.
Prepare and manage the communications annual budget including vendor coordination and outsourced production.
Provide receipts and all documentation necessary to Business Manager for purchases etc in accordance to fiscal procedures provided.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Communications Public Relations Graphic Design or related field (or equivalent experience)
Demonstrated experience in planning organizing and delegation of projects events and activities
Demonstrated experience managing digital communication platforms (website social media email livestream etc)
Experience with graphic design or content creation tools (Canva Adobe Creative Suite Final Cut Pro etc)
Competent in computer hardware/software programs including Squarespace Mailchimp and Microsoft applications.
Background in team leadership project management or volunteer coordination is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for various audiences.
Proficiency in digital and print media.
Familiarity with church management systems (IE Planning Center SquareSpace Mailchimp etc) is an advantage.
Ability to design and implement cohesive branding across all platforms.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
Comfortable working with both staff and volunteers and fostering collaboration and creativity.
High level of discretion professionalism and alignment with the churchs mission values and vision.
