Job Description

Supports a specific laboratory at the Institute for Human Neuroscience including processing of functional mapping data assisting in large-scale strategic efforts in data organization providing scientific support and training to other laboratory staff in in analyzing neuroimaging data assisting the lab director in preparing figures for grants and writing manuscripts and other types of reports. Supports the training mission of the laboratory including interacting with and helping mentor research assistants and graduate students.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Works closely with Laboratory leadership to fulfill the needs of the overall research program.

  • Participates in the implementation and analysis of functional and structural neuroimaging experiments in the context of the laboratorys federally funded research awards and emerging pilot studies.

  • Participates in the design implementation analysis and publication of studies within the laboratorys research program.

  • Actively contributes to the design of new experiments including conceptual basis stimulus timing and design programming initial testing and other elements.

  • Remains up to date with the literature in areas of importance to the laboratory including methods used and populations studied.

  • Publishes and presents research results and other material relevant to the research program in appropriate forums including refereed journals and national meetings.

  • Helps train new graduate students postdocs and research assistants on analysis of MEG MRI and other types of neuroimaging data.

  • Engages and helps lead large collaborative projects within the laboratory as well as those involving multiple laboratories.

  • Helps identify problems with new studies and works with leadership to resolve issues toward the best possible outcomes.

  • Assists in organizing the laboratorys research data including large-scale neuroimaging databases cognitive/emotional assessment data and hormones and other biological data to facilitate data usage and integration in the context of large groundbreaking studies.

  • Participates in workshops and other events at IHN and nationally to continuously improve scientific skills in neuroimaging methods statistics and related areas.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to analyze MEG functional mapping data and write reports of results that are appropriate for publication.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of the relevant literature and research design.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics statistics and computer applications appropriate for the field of MEG.

  • Ability to analyze MRI data including structural spectroscopic and other types and write-up results appropriate for publication in journals.

  • Ability to learn emerging methods including OPM and contribute to laboratorys growth in these areas.

  • Ability to communicate concisely both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work well with other professional personnel and with support staff.

  • Ability to train supervise and evaluate research assistants graduate students and postdocs.

  • Ability to travel as necessary to attend meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline and strong MEG technical skills as indicated by completion of a research-oriented postdoctoral training program required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with MEG required.

  • Demonstrated history of significant MEG research leading to at least 5 first- authored publications in peer-reviewed journals required.

  • Significant history of peer-reviewed publication including at least 15 collaborative publications in neuroimaging journals.

  • Multiple presentations at national meetings required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire required.

  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS EQUIPMENT USAGE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop monitor keyboard and a general workstation set-up.
