Main Purpose of Job

An Activity Therapy Associate I is the entry level of activity therapy support work at Maryland Department of Health (MDH) designated Court Involved (CI) Facilities assisting in the implementation of the prescribed activity therapy programs and patient/client assessments for mentally ill aged or physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients who are residents of State treatment facilities or community based programs. Employees in this classification do not supervise but may provide advice and guidance to direct care staff students and volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the implementationof prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcareprofessional to include assisting in patient/client assessments for mentallyill aged physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentallydisabled clients.

may substitutethe completion of 60 credit hours from anaccredited college oruniversity with at least 15 credit hours inhealth services humanservices education or the behavioral sciencesfor the requiredexperience.

may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience asa non-commissioned officer in Therapyclassifications or Therapyspecialty codes in the TherapeuticRecreation field of work on ayear-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience utilizing MS Office Suite (Excel Word) and Google Workspace.
  • Experience planning designing and implementing Recreational Therapy Groups.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classificationmay be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employeesassigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorslicense valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in some positions in thisclassificationmay be required to operate vehicles which require a ClassC motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
3. Employees in this classificationmay be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification ofcardio-pulmonary resuscitation training.
4. Employees in thisclassificationat facilities with a swimming pool may be required toobtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safetyprior toappointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
