Our mechanics perform diagnostic troubleshooting preventive maintenance and daily repairs on Grangers fleet of trucks with attention to the highest-level of quality and safety standards.Secondary duties include the opportunity to get out of the shop and operate as a CDL-driver when repairs and maintenance are light.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review computer-generated maintenance work orders and perform necessary maintenance

  • Provide follow-up communication both verbally and in writing confirming requested repairs have been completed or explaining reasons a repair is incomplete
  • Use diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Troubleshoot and fix mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Lubricate moving parts and drive truck to verify conformance to specifications
  • Perform PM service as scheduled
  • Examine safety devices on trucks and make adjustments fix or replace
  • R & I engine transmission differentials and suspension
  • Perform all required paper work daily
  • Perform all annual inspections reports
  • Keep current with Department of Transportation regulations regarding daily inspections
  • Fabricate and weld as needed to complete a repair
  • Follow all safety standards
  • Ability to pass a physical and drug screen as a condition of employment
  • Work schedule 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday (or as needed)

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver residential trash carts using a company truck if needed
  • Operate a rear-load or automatic side-load trash truck to safely collect trash as needed when drive team needs assistanceCDL B with airbrakes required
  • Start times vary between 5:00-6:30 AM when performing driving duties

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Prior diesel & gasoline mechanic experience required including engine inspection and repair transmission preventive maintenance electrical air brakes steering and suspension inspection diagnosing and repair
  • Prior experience working with after treatment systems and ability to diagnose and troubleshoot system failures

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and ability to diagnose and successfully troubleshoot issues
  • Strong knowledge of advanced fuel control delivery engine management and ignition systems
  • Proficient with Arc MIG and Alum welding
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a positive fast paced and high energy environment
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers
  • Ability and willing to diligently follow through on challenges as they arise
  • Ability and willing to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends as required
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment appreciating the skills and abilities of coworkers and willing to share/mentor others

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS & TOOLS

  • CDL B License with airbrakes (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Must supply own hand tools up to 1/2 inch

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a physically demanding position that works in all types of weather. While performing the duties of this job the associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is required to pick up items weighing up to 100 pounds. The associate is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The associate occasionally works in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
