The High School University Advisor will seek to promote student success by following best practices to empower students to discover explore and achieve their potential as lifelong learners. ISZL University Advisors promote a positive school climate through supporting students in achieving their best fit future pathway(s). Reports to: High School Principal.
This is a full-time position and will begin in August of 2026.
The Role
The High School University Advisor is expected to:
- Work collaboratively with the wider High School team to oversee and plan all activities related to university advising including: parent student and teacher workshops course selection (we offer MYP IBDP AP BTEC and ISZL courses) university visits internship placements gap year/ service planning standardised testing (SAT TOEFL and IELTS tests) and reference writing.
- Oversee and support application processing for all students to world-wide universities including within Switzerland and Germany wider Europe the UK US Canada and Asia.
- Collect and analyse department data to identify trends patterns and suggest improvements to the programme.
- Work together with the High School Leadership Team Parent Association Admissions and Communications to support families as they plan for their life beyond ISZL.
- Provide Grade 11-12 students and parents support guidance information and advocacy as they navigate their way through the university application process worldwide.
- Ensure that students and parents feel well-informed supported and empowered to identify appropriate universities that are a good fit and present themselves to those universities in a manner that highlights their strengths.
- Support students and parents in their transition from Grade 10 to Grade 11 with preliminary university information and guidance on subject selection.
- Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of a careers and strengths exploration for Grades 9-10.
- Set personal and department goals to provide the highest possible standards of support to students and parents.
- Represent ISZL at major international admissions and guidance conferences including during those that take place in vacation periods.
- Work remotely over the IB/AP/BTEC results period to support students and families.
- Prepare and update the University Handbook/google site obtain and collate information pertaining to worldwide university admissions requirements updates the library of college/university brochures and make college search software available to students.
- Inform the community about the University Advising services through the newsletter for parents and daily notices for students.
- Write school recommendations and coordinate teacher information for college-bound Seniors.
- Plan and organise career and university information sessions host and maintain liaison with University Tours and sponsor parent information sessions.
- Maintain appropriate databases and information systems to streamline the dissemination of information relevant to the college selection and admissions process
While working with ISZL Colleagues
- Advise Grade Level Leaders in the areas of career exploration university and college guidance.
- Work with homeroom teachers to proactively support students in their applications and supporting materials for applications.
- Collaborate with colleagues for the administration of school-based admissions tests such as STEP BMAT TSA etc.
- Provide required input for the School Profile
- Maintain student records and correspondence relevant to college guidance/admission

- A formal teaching qualification would be desirable.
- It is essential that applicants have at least 5 years experience supporting students university needs.
- Experience of European/UK university application processes is desirable.
