Job Description

Junior or Intermediate Hydrogeologist
Location:

North Vancouver/New Westminster BC or Calgary AB.

Hatfield is seeking a Junior to Intermediate Hydrogeologist (or a geologist/engineer with interest and experience in groundwater) to become part of our team and provide support to our growing and dynamic multi-disciplinary Water Resource Group. The successful candidate will provide field and technical support for the design and implementation of hydrogeology hydrology and water resource management components of Hatfields energy oil and gas mining municipal and infrastructure projects in Alberta and British Columbia. This is a full-time permanent position. It comprises a combination of office and fieldwork.


Responsibilities:
  • Design and/or participate in hydrogeologic investigation (baseline) water supply and (compliance) monitoring programs (water quality).
  • Prepare participate and lead (after appropriate training and mentoring) field programs required for hydrogeology hydrology and water quality data collection and monitoring programs. Field programs could occur at both local and remote locations. The field programs will be mostly in Alberta and British Columbia and may be occasional or consistent both short-term and longer-term (2-3 weeks) depending on project workloads scopes of work and time of year.
  • Compile manage and interpret hydrogeologic water use water quality and other environmental data (e.g. review of near-real-time telemetry continuous and periodic water level and lab data).
  • Interact with a multidisciplinary team which may include supporting the coordination and/or implementation of other environmental (e.g. water quality aquatic fish) monitoring programs.
  • Draft reports for submission to regulatory agencies or clients.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum two years of experience.
  • . in geology environmental sciences or engineering with academic training in hydrogeology and a minimum one year of pertinent experience (e.g. work or graduate degree thesis).
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) as a member in training.

  • Experience supervising/undertaking drilling programs overburden and bedrock logging (e.g. logging of soil and bedrock cuttings and core logging) well/vibrating wire piezometer (VWP) installation hydrogeologic testing (e.g. slug packer pump tests) and groundwater sampling.
  • Fluent English verbal communication and ability to write concisely.
  • Experience and a keen interest in field work. Field work in remote locations sometimes under adverse weather conditions and overtime will be required.
  • Experience and interest in data compilation and analysis.
  • A willingness to learn new skills both in the field and office and flexibility in regard to contributing to other environmental programs (climate hydrology etc.).
  • Valid drivers license with eligibility for coverage under Hatfields corporate insurance.

Other Assets/Skills:
  • An inclination for quantitative hydrogeology/hydrology and/or groundwater modelling (e.g. MODFLOW Groundwater Vistas FEFLOW etc) would be highly desirable.
  • Hydrometric / climate station installation data logger programming surveying and streamflow measurement.
  • Experience in data compilation and analysis including use of software tools such as Aquarius EQuIS or similar software for loading editing reporting and visualization of sample data.
  • Background in R statistics coding and/or GIS.
  • Vadose zone hydrogeology and water quality / geochemistry.
  • History of progressively responsible positions in geological or hydrogeological programs.
