Job Description
- Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
- Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
- Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
- Process hospital letters;
- Process dossette boxes;
- Manage ordering stock and stock control;
- Answer and deal withdispensary phone enquiries;
- Monitor patients exemption status;
- Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication;
- Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.
About the Candidate
- Candidates must have NVQ Level 3 Dispensing Qualification or due to complete at time of application.
- Dispensary and/or community pharmacy experience;
- Excellent clinical and medication knowledge;
- The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career;
- The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making;
- Knowledge of NHS dispensing regulations and good practice
- The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;
- Excellent patient facing inter-personal communication skills.

Victoria Surgery is a well-established and friendly practice in the centre of Bury St Edmunds caring for a patient population of approximately 11000.
Our practice team consists of 9 list holding GPs and a dedicated clinical management administration and dispensary team who recognisethe importance of a good work-life balance.
We are part of the Bury St Edmunds Primary Care Network and the successful candidate will work alongside a teamincluding paramedics social prescriber health and wellbeing coach care coordinators and a pharmacy technician.
