Emergency Management Specialist Police Department

• Acts as a liaison and coordinator between county agencies private sector local jurisdictions and State and Federal agencies and/or other related programs.
• Prepares grant applications administers grants.
• Administers applicable State and Federally mandated programs.
• Researches develops and maintains disaster emergency plans.
• Responds to emergency and/or disaster situations.
• Coordinates short and long term recovery plans following disasters.
• Monitors and relays weather conditions utilizing weather tracking systems.

• $63780 - $74140is the starting salary range. Annual salary will be dependent on education and experience.
• Emergency Management Specialists are eligible for a6% incentive if/when they have completed the Certified Emergency Manager Credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers.
  
• Emergency Management Specialists may be assigned to on-call duties to support the response to emergencies and disaster events. Personnel in on-call status receive additional compensation in accordance with Gwinnett County policy.

• Bachelors Degree with course work in public administration emergency management or a related field AND
• Two (2) years of related emergency management experience OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

• Must be 21 years of age
• This job is a civilian position in a public safety department. Due to the sensitive nature of this position a public safety background is required which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories and fingerprinting.
  
• Must pass a comprehensive background process including criminal employment credit driving and controlled substance check to be eligible for this position
  
• Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekend/holiday rotation and on call status
• Valid Drivers License from state of residency
  
• State of Georgia Certified Emergency Manager must complete within eighteen months of hire
  

• Experience in hazard mitigation programs.
• Experience in emergency management training.
• Experience in emergency management planning programs
• Experience in WebEOC (or any other incident management software).

TheGwinnett County Office of Emergency Management is the coordinating authority of the Emergency Management Program for Gwinnett County. This involves planning for emergencies and disasters responding to incidents as a coordinating agency directing mitigation against hazards and assisting Gwinnett County Government and its residents in recovery after an incident. The Office of Emergency Management works very closely with all departments agencies operating units administration and neighboring 2020 the Office of Emergency Management was granted accreditation by the Emergency Management Accreditation Program the first county in the state of Georgia to achieve this prestigious honor.
