Job Description
The Emergency Management Specialist will perform a wide range of consultative coordinative developmental planning and evaluative duties in preparing implementing and maintaining emergency plans response operations relief recovery mitigation and preparedness programs; and perform related work as required.
Essential Duties- Acts as a liaison and coordinator between county agencies private sector local jurisdictions and State and Federal agencies and/or other related programs.
- Prepares grant applications administers grants.
- Administers applicable State and Federally mandated programs.
- Researches develops and maintains disaster emergency plans.
- Responds to emergency and/or disaster situations.
- Coordinates short and long term recovery plans following disasters.
- Monitors and relays weather conditions utilizing weather tracking systems.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelors Degree with course work in public administration emergency management or a related field AND
- Two (2) years of related emergency management experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Other Job Requirements/Information- Must be 21 years of age
- This job is a civilian position in a public safety department. Due to the sensitive nature of this position a public safety background is required which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories and fingerprinting.
- Must pass a comprehensive background process including criminal employment credit driving and controlled substance check to be eligible for this position
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekend/holiday rotation and on call status
- Valid Drivers License from state of residency
- State of Georgia Certified Emergency Manager must complete within eighteen months of hire
Preferred Requirements
- Experience in hazard mitigation programs.
- Experience in emergency management training.
- Experience in emergency management planning programs
- Experience in WebEOC (or any other incident management software).
