A DAY IN THE LIFE

Enthalpy Analytical is part of the larger organization Montrose Environmental Group is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air water and soil testing. Regulations drive the need for our services but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.

The SVOA Group Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and technical execution of EPA methods/8082 and 8015 within the laboratory. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality defensible data on time while maintaining rigorous standards for safety quality and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient proactive leaders who thrives in a fast-paced lab setting excels at coaching and developing staff and is committed to operational excellence and regulatory compliance. They are confident decision-makers who value precision and accountability over consensus-building. The ideal candidate is a self-directed results-driven leader who thrives under pressure takes initiative without hesitation and maintains a strong sense of urgency in meeting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Oversight:

  • Lead execution of EPA Methods 8270 (SVOCs) 8081/8082 (Pesticides/PCBs) and 8015 (TPH).

  • Oversee instrument calibration validation and maintenance for GC GC/MS GC/FID and GC/ECD systems.

  • Troubleshoot complex instrumentation and method-related issues with minimal supervision.

  • Ensure proper sample preparation extraction and analysis protocols are followed.

  • Review and approve data packages for accuracy completeness and regulatory compliance.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor analysts and technicians providing technical guidance and performance feedback.

  • Coordinate daily scheduling resource allocation and workload balancing to meet production goals.

  • Foster a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous learning. - Support onboarding and training of new staff ensuring method proficiency and QA compliance.

  • Promote a positive inclusive and high-performance team environment.

  • Lead with confidence and clarity using direct communication to align the team with operational goals.

  • Drive team performance by setting clear expectations following up rigorously and holding team members accountable for results.

  • Demonstrate urgency and intensity in managing competing priorities and driving throughput.

  • Take ownership of production timelines and proactively remove obstacles to ensure on-time delivery.

Operational Execution:

  • Monitor turnaround times and ensure client deadlines are consistently met.

  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies.

  • Implement best practices and SOPs to improve consistency throughput and data quality.

  • Participate in method development optimization and implementation of new technologies.

  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and clients regarding project status and technical issues.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and overhead projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to Enthalpys Quality Assurance Program NELAC and EPA regulatory standards.

  • Partner with QA to address non-conformances and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs).

  • Maintain organized documentation and records in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.

  • Promote and enforce lab safety protocols in partnership with the Health & Safety Specialist.

  • Support internal client and regulatory audits as needed.

  • Demonstrates urgency intensity and a strong internal drive to meet goals.

  • Communicates with clarity and candor prioritizing efficiency over consensus.

  • Thrives in high-pressure environments and maintains focus on results.

  • Takes initiative and ownership of outcomes with minimal need for direction.

EXPERTISE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry Environmental Science or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in analytical chemistry with a focus on EPA methods/8082 and 8015.

  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.

  • Strong knowledge of EPA Methods and 8015.

  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting GC GC/MS GC/FID and GC/ECD instrumentation.

  • Experience with LIMS or similar data systems.

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and operate standard lab and office equipment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience leading teams in a high-throughput deadline-driven environment is preferred

  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 or NELAP-accredited lab environments.

  • Demonstrated success in method development process improvement or lean lab operations.

  • Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills.
