POSITION: MATERIAL HANDLER 2nd Shift

START RATE: $21.63

Job Description

Material Handler Essential Functions:

  • Support and maintain production requirements by keeping presses adequately supplied with raw materials.
  • Pull weigh and record scrap.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Operate hi-lo truck.
  • Construct boxes.
  • Retrieve stock.
  • Stock incoming parts/material.
  • Perform weight counts as necessary and adjust inventory.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of work area.
  • Perform other duties related to material handling as required by supervisor

Job Requirements

  • Basic store keeping knowledge ability to use independent judgment in packing stacking and arranging shipments & prioritizing jobs.
  • Basic understanding of personal computers and scanners.
  • Pulling/moving raw material to the production floor equal to and including replacing filters for injection molding and document move tags as necessary for stamping
  • Clean/maintain auxiliary equipment up to and including scrap hoppers grinders and loaders
  • Knowledge and understanding of material transactions and storage process in QAD
  • Loading and unloading trucks.
  • Ability to pass OSHA Hi-Lo test required
  • Operate Hi-Lo truck:
  • Deliver raw material to production floor.
  • Remove finished parts from press and replace reels.
  • Weigh and record data from full scrap containers
  • Weigh and record rejected stock.
  • Construct boxes for production reels fill with empty reels and keep production area stocked.
  • Keep production area stocked with containers and pallets.
  • Pull scrap according to scrap tickets and reports per order requirements. Involves matching scrap tickets weighing scrap and balancing scrap sheet. Scrap is staged for loading.
  • Put incoming plating parts/audit away.
  • Perform weight counts.
  • Stock cardboard as needed.
  • Conduct inventory of boxes reels pallets and any other materials on the order form (s) needed to run production.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
  • Scrap Segregation Machines Tools Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this type of work.
  • Personal Computer Hi-Lo truck Scale Bander Wrapping Machine Staple Guns Box Maker and Compactor.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic is required
  • Basic skills in oral and written communication
  • Comply with all Environment Health and Safety EH&Srules and procedures.
  • Compact discarded packing/shipping material (boxes etc). Move finished goods to warehouse as required and transport material from the warehouse to the production floor as needed using FIFO
  • Ensure that all material barrels and containers on floor are full to prevent down time and allow proper dry time.
  • Clean and maintain the grinders hoppers and loaders on the production floor including but not limited to cleaning and replacing filters as needed
  • Move received material from receiving area and place in designated storage locations in the warehouse or on the production floor
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed and the working environment is healthy and safe
  • Assist Die Setters in minor tasks and raw material spill cleanup.
  • Assist with unloading trucks as needed.
  • Follow the proper documentation procedures to maintain material lot traceability and FIFO
  • Organize raw materials on the warehouse racks in an orderly fashion and maintain overall work areas in accordance with 5s standards
  • Ensure floor packaging racks are stocked for operators
  • Restock workstations on floor as needed with necessary components.
  • Maintain & Stock FIFO component rack on production floor

Material Handler Evaluations:

  • Material Handler trainee evaluation will be made on a weekly basis.
  • Training will follow the training plan.
  • There is a 60-day qualification period.

Working Conditions:

Degree of Physical Demands (Strength) usually associated with this classification:

  • Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly.
  • Involves walking standing stooping kneeling and climbing on a frequent basis with occasional crouching.

Environmental conditions (Physical Surroundings) usually associated with this classification:

  • The associate is subject to environmental conditions common to a plant environment including cramped conditions between presses and enclosures.
  • Some exposure to loud noise and oil.
  • The Associate is subject to internal plant and office environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to external conditions due to loading and unloading trucks.
  • Exposure to loud noise in the Press Room.

Environmental conditions (Hazards) usually associated with this classified:

  • Exposure to Hi-Lo truck traffic battery charger possible cuts from material tail and banding occasional exposure to wet or slippery dock plates.
