The Surgery Supervisor is responsible for oversite of the staff and management of day-to-day operations of the unit in accordance with federal state and local regulations and within the policies procedures and guidelines of the organization. The Surgery Supervisor provides optimal services for patients and physicians in conjunction with Charge Nurses and Specialty Coordinators and is a liaison and representative for the perioperative leadership team.
Essential Job Functions
Works jointly with Anesthesia Surgeons the Clinical team perioperative leadership and Specialty Coordinators to plan staffing and daily assignments. This includes assigning staff to work areas and/or work assignments modifying work assignments assisting with meal coverage fielding call offs and providing adequate staffing levels for the next shift and managing the daily procedure schedule including taking postings for add-on cases.
May be responsible for the development of the staff schedule and may be a timekeeper for the department.
Collaborates with various departments to resolve patient care issues. Collaborates with Materials Management SPD Engineering Biomed and Environmental Services to coordinate the patient care needs of supplies instruments and equipment and to resolve environmental issues based upon unit need. Represents organization by serving as daily liaison and resource person to the Medical Staff. Listens and responds in an appropriate and constructive manner to concerns. Refers key issues to perioperative senior leadership.
Demonstrates knowledge and implements principles of cost containment through judicious use of Human Resources and supplies.
May be responsible for interviewing/selecting/hiring staff orienting training assigning scheduling coaching counseling and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; adhering to policies and procedures. Submits performance-based appraisals summaries and provides feedback for coaching and performance evaluations of team members.
Assists with identifying and implementing quality and process improvement initiatives within the department. Develops processes that provide measurable outcomes. Leads clinical initiatives ensuring education training and implementation of the study design. May be responsible for data collection or auditing and accurate record keeping as well as product evaluation and assessment. Also actively participates in unit or facility councils and committees.
Meets Surgery Department operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production productivity quality and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
Provides support of clinical learning through mentorship clinical rounds and practice evaluation. Provides clinical instruction and/or in-service training to department staff other healthcare team members and students. Demonstrates the ability to function in staffing as needed.

Licensing/Certification
BLS Basic Life Support American Heart Association (required)
Currently Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Practice (required)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (preferred)
CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred)
SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred)
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)
BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred required at RSFH)
Work Experience
2 years perioperative nursing experience (required)
One year in a charge nurse specialty coordinator or a leadership role (preferred; for RSFH)
