Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Thompson Rivers University is made up of a diverse and collaborative group of faculty offering a BSc. degree with majors in: Biology; Animal Biology; Ecology and Environmental Biology; Cellular Molecular and Microbial Biology; and in collaboration with the Department of Physical Sciences Chemical Biology. Cross-cutting themes include: the evolutionary frameworks guiding fundamental and applied ecology; responses of humans and diverse living communities to external stressors including cellular responses; the use of classical and modern statistical bioinformatic and genomic tools to interrogate hypotheses and develop solutions for environmental problems. Core to these themes is a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship collaboration within the Department and with colleagues across campus participation in undergraduate Honors and MSc programs and developing a positive environment where students are encouraged to grow as independent learners and critical thinkers.

We are currently seeking a Biologist to deliver courses BIOL 4130 (Molecular Evolution: 3 credits) BIOL 1110 (Principles of Biology: 3 credits) BIOL 3520 (Cell Physiology 3 Labs 6 credits). Candidates will be responsible for:

  1. Leading these in-person lectures by delivering lectures (BIOL 1110 & 4130) and leading labs (BIOL 3520). The laboratory component will provide hands-on experience with techniques and equipment used to study cell function particularly through eukaryotic cell culturing.
  2. Creating administering and grading quizzes and examinations throughout the semester. This also includes grading laboratory reports and presentations whether in the lab or lecture setting.
  3. Providing feedback in relation to students performance and findings in lab.
  4. Grading and offering constructive feedback on student-written submissions for all courses throughout the semester.

Requirements

Candidates will have completed a PhD in Biology or a related discipline along with demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.

Applicants with an MSc and demonstrated experience may also be considered.
